TULSA — The University of Oklahoma women’s soccer team stretched its winning streak to five games with a 2-1 road victory at Tulsa last Sunday evening.

OU (7-1) scored both its goals in the first 10 minutes of the match and limited Tulsa (4-4-2) to just four shots on the evening. The Sooners placed nine of their 18 shots on frame (50 percent) and drew 24 set pieces via 10 corners and 14 Tulsa fouls.

Sophia Green scored her 28th collegiate goal and extended her point streak to five matches while Ella Pappas provided her fifth goal of the season.

Green scored the game’s opening goal in the fourth minute with a terrific header at the right side of the frame, leaping to finish a stellar pass from Pappas just beyond the left side of the box. Pappas pushed OU’s lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 11th minute, following a deflection off a Weber corner kick and finishing strong with her left foot from 14 feet out.

Tulsa scored late in the first half to trim its deficit to one as senior defender Ashlyn Fernandez logged TU’s goal in the 34th minute of the contest, but OU’s defense settled in through the final 45 minutes to seal the result. OU keeper Caroline Duffy improved to 7-1 on the fall and registered a lone save.

With her goal, Green has registered a point in six of her last seven and has scored a goal in four of her last five. Pappas has scored in three of her past four contests, collecting all five of her goals this season in that span.

The Sooners will return to Norman on Thursday to entertain Mississippi State for OU’s first-ever Southeastern Conference match with a 7 p.m. start.

The American Athletic Conference play will continue for the Hurricane on Thursday as Tulsa will entertain North Texas (5-2-2, 1-0 AAC) at 7 p.m. TU (0-1 in conference play) previously fell to Rice 1-0 last Thursday in Houston.
