Strong second half leads Bulldogs to comeback win over Spiro

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

SPIRO — Muldrow used a strong second half to get past host Spiro for a 36-7 road victory in a battle of Bulldogs last Friday night at McClain Stadium.

SPIRO — Muldrow used a strong second half to get past host Spiro for a 36-7 road victory in a battle of Bulldogs last Friday night at McClain Stadium.

Down 7-3 at halftime, Muldrow (3-0 for the first time in two seasons) outscored Spiro 33-0 in the second half to win going away.

Willson

DeShawn Willson rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns, while Teaguen Collins passed for 165 yards and a 37-yard TD pass to D.J. Massey, and Collins rushed for 73 yards and another touchdown. Wyatt Prewett was 3-of-5 on extra points and connected on a firstquarter 31-yard field goal.

Muldrow coach Logan Coatney was not pleased with his team’s start but definitely liked the finish.

“We didn’t come out and play our best half of football — that’s for sure,” Coatney said. “I told them we didn’t do enough in the first half to go 1-0. We’re preaching 1-0 to them this year and what it takes to go 1-0. We went out there in the first half, and we didn’t execute. We didn’t put ourselves in a position to go 1-0 in the first half (have a lead). It didn’t mean the game was over with. It meant we had an opportunity to go out there and get something done (in the second half). They had to take the advantage of going into the second half clear-minded and do what they could do to go 1-0 in the second half (score more points than Spiro).”

The ’Dogs will begin District 3A-3 play against the Eufaula Ironheads at 7 p.m. this Friday at Eufaula’s Paul Bell Stadium.
