WEWOKA — In a battle of Tigers in the District AI-3 opener, it was all Central as the local Tigers routed the host Wewoka Tigers 55-22 last Friday night.

Central (2-2 overall, 1-0 in district play) jumped out to a 24-0 lead after a period, which was supercharged right off the bat as Joe Brooks recovered a fumble in the end zone that was caused by Zach Comer for Central’s first score of the period.

Central’s halftime lead was 42-0 and 55-14 after three periods.

Aiden Smith rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on runs of 22 and 5 yards, while Ryker Miller scored two more rushing TDs on a pair of 5-yard runs. Brooks also had a 5-yard rushing touchdown on offense, Braxin Goodson scored on a 34-yard TD run and Aidan Sainer had a 40-yard interception return for another score. Miller scored on a two-point conversion run, Nathan Vann caught a two-point conversion pass from Goodson and Comer hit three extra points.

Central coach Jeremy Thompson is liking his team’s two-game winning streak.

“We feel like we’ve continued to get better in all aspects of the game on both sides, offense and defense,” Thompson said. “We’ve played a lot better. It’s another big district game this week.”

The Tigers will celebrate homecoming by welcoming Tulsa Regent Prep to Tiger Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday.
