The Class 4A Regional Tournaments for Sallisaw and Muldrow and the Class 3A Regional Tournaments for Roland and Vian will get started this week.
Muldrow’s, Roland’s and Vian’s regional tournaments will begin today, while Sallisaw’s will start Thursday. In fact, Roland is home for its regional tournament.
The brackets are in today’s edition. We lost the other four local teams — Central in Class 2A and Gore, Gans and Webbers Falls in Class A.
LAST WEEK’S HITTING HIGHLIGHTS
Sallisaw’s Channing Wilson had four hits last week with five runs batted in.
Central’s Ayrland Jiles hit a solo home run against Hulbert in last week’s Class 2A Regional Tournament.
Gore’s River Shoemake had three hits in last Wednesday’s Class A District Tournament at Porum as she hit a double and a solo homer.
Gans Lady Grizzly Gabbie Price hit three triples in Thursday’s Class A District Tournament at Red Oak.
Webbers Falls Lady Warrior Bailey Ward had four hits last week, at least a hit in all three games the Lady Warriors played — including a 2-for-2 outing against Cameron-Arkoma which included a three-run, inside-the-park homer.
LETTERS OF INTENT SIGNINGS
With the fast-pitch softball season winding down, I wanted to remind coaches to let me know if any of your players will be signing letters of intent. If I’m given at least a day notice — preferably two days notice — I should be able to make the signing ceremony in person for Your TIMES.
R.I.P., “CHARLIE HUSTLE”
It was a sad day in the baseball world Monday with the passing of baseball legend Pete Rose — a.k.a., “Charlie Hustle” — just a day after being in Franklin, Tenn., for an autograph event.
While breaking the total number of hits by a player with 4,256, Rose, who was a part of “The Big Red Machine” days with Binger’s own legend and Hall of Famer Johnny Bench, won three World Series.
Unfortunately, what Rose will be remembered for is being banned from baseball due to betting on baseball, which has kept him from being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
I personally think the ban should have been lifted some years ago for “paying his penance” so that he could have been rightfully inducted into Cooperstown. I do hope he gets there posthumously.
