Black Diamonds in the Emerald City

By BY STEPHANIE BENNETT

Two Sallisaw FCCLA officers visited Seattle over summer break with leadership, delegation, and competition on their minds. It seems most teens are busy with summer jobs, summer pride, and summer holidays throughout June and July. But for the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America it means gearing up for their National Leadership Conference.

This past spring, during OK FCCLA’s State Convention in Tulsa, Hannah Brake won third place in State STAR Events for Level 3 Fashion Construction. But most importantly, she was voted in as one of only two National Officer Candidates by members of the OK FCCLA student delegation.

Hannah became Sallisaw High School’s seventh student to be voted in as a member of the State Executive Council for Okahoma, serving as Vice President of Marketing. From 1945 – 1999, the organization’s name has changed a number of times. This past election made her the first from Sallisaw in 30 years, the first since its name changed from FHA-HERO to FCCLA.

While she served her state affiliation in Seattle, Hannah had the extraordinary opportunity to compete against a large number of National Officer Candidates across the country as well. Only 10 candidates are elected to serve FCCLA as the National Executive Council. Hannah says, “Although I wasn’t elected as a National Officer, I am extremely grateful to have had this experience. The process and people I met during it all is something I will carry with me in everything I do and in any and all leadership positions.”

Hannah is a senior at Sallisaw High School, active in many things. She has been a member of several CareerTech Organizations since 7th grade: TSA, FFA, FCCLA, and now BPA. Hannah is currently setting her sights on future plans for Oklahoma State University after graduation.

Adrianna Allen served OK FCCLA as a Voting Delegate during the National Leadership Conference. A great number of bylaw amendments were questioned and discussed during business sessions. Adrianna also had the pleasure of voting in Silo, OK FCCLA’s Brandon Weibel as their National President for 20242025.

Adrianna was not only a delegate but a National STAR Event competitor as well. She made the finalist list by earning a spot in the top ten in her category and level. She walked away fifth Overall in Level 2 Instructional Video Design.

Adrianna is also a member of the Sallisaw BPA and the Black Diamond Productions team at Sallisaw High School. Adrianna’s experience in making the competitive video sparked much interest in pursuing the class her Junior year of school.
