Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane said authorities are continuing to search for a Hispanic male who ran from deputies during a traffic stop west of U.S. Hwy. 59, early Monday morning.
Lane said while the man is not considered dangerous or a threat, authorities are encouraging residents in the Wild Horse Mountain area to be on alert, and to contact authorities if they see a man matching his description.
Lane reported the man’s wife was driving a separate vehicle in front of him when she was pulled over and found to have a small amount of drugs in her possession, which she was arrested for. He said the man then pulled over and fled on foot for unknown reasons.
“Even though he hadn’t done anything wrong and was not being arrested, he ran,” Lane said. “We don’t know why, he just did.”
He said the Hispanic male was wearing darkcolored jeans and possibly a blue shirt.
Deputies, along with the help of Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, and District 27 Drug Task Force searched the area but the man was never located.
“This subject is not believed to be armed,” Lane said.
Lane said anyone has any information on the man or knows of his whereabouts, is asked to report any sightings to the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office at 918775-9155 or by calling 911.
