That’s a wrap on 2024 fast-pitch softball season

By BY DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

The 2024 high school fast-pitch softball season came to an end last week when our Class 3A and 4A teams bowed out at their respective regional tournaments.

The 2024 high school fast-pitch softball season came to an end last week when our Class 3A and 4A teams bowed out at their respective regional tournaments.

I want to thank all you coaches and Gamechanger operators for your help in helping me cover our teams.

I know this is several months off, but around February I’ll send you coaches your questionnaires to fill out for season-preview stories, and if we need to take new team photographs for the 2025 Spring Sports Guide. If we do need to take a new team photograph, since there might be players who won’t play in the spring who played this fall — or players who didn’t play this fall who will play this spring — just let me know in February.

ALL-DISTRICT TEAMS

There will be all-district teams announced for Districts 4A-6 (Sallisaw and Muldrow), 3A-8 (Roland and Vian) and 2A-11 (Central).

If you coaches will share with me your respective all-district team members, I will do a story about their honors once all the teams of that respective district are finished for the season.

My contact information is listed at the end of this column.

LAST WEEK’S HITTING HIGHLIGHTS

Roland’s Paisley Davis and Addyson Clark each hit home runs last week. Davis hit a three-run, inside-the-park homer in last Wednesday’s Class 3A Regional Tournament opening-round game against Hugo, while Clark hit a game-tying two-run homer in the seventh inning against Keys later that day in the winner’s-bracket final before the Lady Cougars won the game in their half of the seventh inning.

Vian’s Rayleigh Terrill and Hanna Mattingly each had a double during last week’s Class 3A Regional Tournament.

LAST WEEK’S PITCHING HIGHLIGHTS

Roland’s McKinna Cooper threw a fiveinning no-hitter against Hugo in last Wednesday’s opening-round game in the Class 3A Regional Tournament.

MLB PLAYOFFS

We’re down to the final four in both the American League and the National League.

After Monday’s American League Divisional Series, the Kansas City Royals took Game 2 over the New York Yankees to knot the series at 1-all, while the Detroit Tigers did likewise at the Cleveland Guardians.

Entering Tuesday’s Game 3s of the National League Divisional Series, the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies as well as the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers also are tied at 1-all.

One thing we know for certain is we will not only have a new World Series champion, but two different teams in this year’s Fall Classic since the Arizona Diamondbacks failed to make the playoffs as defending NL Champions.

SO LONG UNTIL SPRING

With today’s column, the 2024 fastpitch softball version of Diamond Notes will come to a close. I’ll be back in late February as we gear up for both the 2025 high school baseball season and the slow-pitch softball season.

Until then, may your hits be homers and your bases full. Take care until spring.
