Second ‘threat’ shuts down Roland Schools

The Roland Public School District received a second “potential threat” on Tuesday morning, asking parents to not drop off their children at the school until police could clear all buildings, determining the school campus as safe.
According to school officials, a bomb threat was received early Tuesday morning as the school prepares for their homecoming festivities on Friday.
At 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday, the school district posted to their social media page to “please be patient, as we are trying to determine the level of threat in order to keep all students and faculty safe.”
Students who were picked up by school buses were then transported to the Roland Police Department until they could be picked up and signed out by their parents or guardians. Students already at the school were sent to the Ranger Dome.
Parents were grateful late Thursday afternoon after the last bus of high school students was dropped off at TheBod Church in Roland, following what was described at that time as a “potential threat” at the school district.
Roland Public Schools posted to their social media page Thursday that “due to a threat on campus, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) was investigating the threat, and all through traffic would be stopped and no students released, until the clear was given.” Although the actual threat remained undisclosed on Thursday, the school said they were notified by a third party of a potential threat through a state suicide hotline. The hotline was said to have been actively talking with the caller and communicating with law enforcement.
Students were told to leave all their personal belongings behind and were bussed to the Roland church on U.S. Hwy. 64, until a system was in place for parents to pick their children up safely and efficiently.
Just after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, OHP reportedly cleared the school campus, and it was announced that students could pick their personal items up from the school until 9 p.m. that night, and again on Friday.
The school’s final announcement stated, “At this time, it is an ongoing investigation and the school will release info as we receive it. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Roland Public Schools, with the direction of state and local law enforcement, have taken every measure to ensure the safety of everyone at Roland Public Schools.”
