Bulldogs suffer district road loss to Holland Hall

TULSA — The Muldrow Bulldogs fell to the Tulsa Holland Hall Dutch 38-0 in District 3A-3 action Friday night at Hardesty Field.

Muldrow is now 4-4 overall and 1-4 in district play. The Bulldogs will be at home for their final two games, against Stigler on Friday and Locust Grove on Nov. 8.

Muldrow was without starting quarterback Teaguen Collins because of a knee injury, although he suited up and participated in the pregame warm-up.

“We sat Teaguen as a precautionary,” Muldrow coach Logan Coatney said. “He is feeling great and went through practice all last week. We look forward to having him this week.”

Freshman Jace Prewett got the start as the signal caller and finished with 171 passing yards. Jermauree Palmer caught six passes for a game-high 98 yards.

Holland Hall (5-3, 3-2) got points on the opening drive of the game, courtesy of a 31-yard field goal Tyler Toole with 6:39 left in the first quarter.

The ’Dogs moved into Dutch territory on their opening possession, but it ended with an interception with 4:47 remaining in the first period.

There was a wild sequence at the end of the first quarter and start of the second. Muldrow got a first down after punter Wyatt Prewett was run into and then roughed on consecutive attempts.

However, on the next play from scrimmage, the Dutch got another interception. They eventually cashed in with the game’s first touchdown on a seven-yard Trey Burleson keeper at the 8:20 mark of the second period.

The lead grew to 17-0 with 3:33 left in the second quarter on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Burleson to James Jones.

Jacob Gregory returned the ensuing kickoff 35 yards to the Holland Hall 47, but the Bulldogs lost a fumble on the next play.

The Dutch struck quickly on another touchdown toss from Burleson, this one covering 43 yards to Weston Brookhart with just more than two minutes to play in the first half.

Gregory had another nice return on the opening kickoff of the second half that covered 27 yards and put the ball at the Holland Hall 37. Muldrow was unable to capitalize, however.

The final two scores came late in the third period on a five-yard run from Rhett Gibson at the 3:32 mark and a 60-yard pick-6 from Sloane Synar 102 seconds later.

The Bulldogs had the ball at the Holland Hall 2 yard line following a partially blocked punt with 8:18 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Muldrow eventually faced fourth down at the Holland Hall 5 yard line. Jace Prewett’s pass to D.J. Massey connected, but Massey wasn’t able to get a foot down in bounds in the end zone at the 6:04 mark of the fourth.

Another partially blocked punt gave the ’Dogs the ball near midfield with just less than three minutes remaining.

Muldrow moved deep into Holland Hall territory, but were denied once again after another interception near the goal line on the final play of the game.

“This season has had its ups and downs,” Coatney said. “I think our team and program have come leaps and bounds from where we were last year. We have a lot to fix from our outing against Holland Hall. (We’re) looking forward to going to work this week and preparing for Stigler.”

The Bulldogs will entertain the Stigler Panthers at 7 p.m. Friday at Marty Rogers Field.
