COPAN — It was a rough evening of football Friday night for the Webbers Falls Warriors as they lost 41-12 to the host Copan Hornets in a District BII-4 game.
The Warriors (4-4 overall, 1-2 in district play) got a touchdown apiece from Brutus Robinson and Aiden Turley, but missed both conversion attempts.
It was just not the Warriors’ night on Friday.
“We had too many penalties for one,” Webbers Falls coach Trent Holt said. “That’s not what beat us. We gave up way too many big plays in their running game. We didn’t control the line of scrimmage.”
Turley suffered a shoulder injury in the early stages of the third quarter and did not return, and Zane Nolan did not get to play in the game at all after it had looked like he would be able to.
“We were very limited as to what we could do on defense. Offensively, we moved the football — we just shot ourselves in the foot.”
The Warriors are currently in a three-way tie for third place with the Arkoma Mustangs (5-3, 1-2) and the Wesleyan Christian Mustangs (1-7, 1-2) — who stunned Arkoma 38-8 Friday night.
Webbers Falls will visit Arkoma for a 7 p.m. district game Friday night at Arkoma’s Mustang Field, while Wesleyan Christian will visit Gans at 7 p.m. Friday with both games having major implications as to the playoff picture as far as the district is concerned.
