On Monday, Sallisaw’s Carnie Welch American Legion Post 27 hosted a community Veterans Day ceremony at Indian Capital Technology Center.
Frank Sullivan III served as master of ceremonies, and Oklahoma State Senator Warren Hamilton was the guest speaker. Shaylan Steely, a freshman at Sallisaw High School, sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “America the Beautiful Medley” and “Still a Soldier.” Rev. Harold McKeehan from Assembly of God Church, delivered the opening and closing prayers; Post 27 Commander Jared Larsen provided the welcome; and Post 27 Auxiliary Vice President Margaret Wood led the Pledge of Allegiance. American Legion Post 27 Honor Guard, under the command of James Cheater, posted and retired the colors, and Cooper Ellis from Sallisaw High School closed the ceremony by playing “Taps.” The ceremony also included a dedication and retirement of American flags.
