There is nothing more desired by both senior linemen than for the Warriors to win the school’s first-ever state football championship.
“It would almost be indescribable, to get the first state championship for the school in football,” Kunkel said. “That would be one of the best things I would have ever done. Nobody could take it away from you. You’d be a state champion.” “It would be pretty nice to put that gold ball in that trophy case over there (at Webbers Falls Event Center) your senior year,” Littlefield said.
The Warriors needed to win last week’s Senior Night game over Gans last Friday night at Smokey Cox Stadium to ensure a third-place finish in District BII-4. Mission accomplished, although it was done in a rainstorm. However, Kunkel said he didn’t mind the inclement weather conditions one bit.
“It was a fun game,” Kunkel said. “It was like the best weather you could ask for. It was perfect domination (of Gans). There were no first downs (for Gans) allowed. We scored on every drive. All we could do was to go out there and win and have fun.”
Since the Warriors did not want to finish fourth, wanting to place third was an added motivation to win on Senior Night.
“There was a lot of motivation for that game,” Littlefield said. “We’re pretty happy about (getting third place).”
To have another chance to play in the postseason thrills Kunkel.
“It’s always great to make the postseason,” Kunkel said. “You always want a chance to go (to the playoffs) to see how far you can go and try to be the underdogs in the playoffs.”
The fact that the Warriors are just four wins away from winning the school’s first-ever state football championship has Littlefield filled with excitement.
“I’m pretty excited about it,” Littlefield said. “It gets my juices flowing.”
