Vian Wrestling Club duo participates at Rumble on the River

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

VERDIGRIS — Two Vian Wrestling Club members participated in last Saturday’s Rumble on the River.

Rocky Ford, wrestling at 110 pounds, finished fourth after losing by a 9-7 decision in the third-place match to Checotah Mascats wrestler Boede Johnson. Ford opened with a quarterfinal loss to Skiatook Youth Wrestling’s Kayden Dennis by pinfall, but he won two straight matches — 7-6 over Vinita Kids Wrestling’s Porter Chaney and Verdigris Youth Wrestling’s Ryder Sisco by a 9-0 major division — to reach the third-place match.

Madalynn Turman, wrestling in the girls age 10-and-younger division, went 1-2 — beating Wagoner Takedown Club’s Kynlee Wilson by pinfall in 1:24 but losing 3-1 to Gentry (Ark.) Youth Wrestling’s Emerson McCain and being pinned by Jay Wrestling Club’s Kaili Prose.

Bronc Sumpter was sixth at 90 pounds in the age 10-and-younger division at the World of Wrestling Kickoff Classic in Tulsa.
