Roland holds off Sequoyah-Tahlequah for season-opening victory

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

TAHLEQUAH — The Roland Runnin’ Rangers got their 2024-25 season off the right way with a 61-57 road victory over the Sequoyah-Tahlequah Indians.

The Running’ Rangers (1-0) led 11-9 after a quarter, 31-23 at halftime and 50-37 after three periods, but the Indians (0-1) made things interesting as they outscored Roland 20-11 in the fourth quarter but the rally fell short.

For the game, Damonte Owens led Roland with 22 points, followed by Landon Fowler and Mason Kemp each scoring 10 points, Kade Shook with nine points, Buck Triplett with five points, Kayden Hartt with three points and Raesean Perryman with two points.

WEBBERS FALLS 49, ARKOMA 46

Tuesday night at Webbers Falls Event Center, the Warriors (1-0 overall, 1-0 in Riverside Conference play) rallied from a 29-27 halftime deficit by outscoring the Mustangs (0-1, 0-1) 22-19 in the second half to get the come-frombehind victory.

For the game, Chevy Cole and Luke Pierce each scored 14 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Brutus Robinson with seven points, Wyatt Scheeland and Thadan Yandell with five points each and Gunner Shelby and Elliott Kunkel with two points apiece.

STILWELL 61, MULDROW 57

Tuesday night in Stilwell, the Bulldogs dropped to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in NOAA Conference play, while the Indians improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

There was no more information reported on the game by press time. Look for those details and tonight’s game details against Alma, Ark., in Wednesday’s edition.

EDITOR’S NOTE — Gore’s Tuesday night Riverside Conference home game against Porum at Gore Event Center was canceled due to the fact the Panthers are in their own tournament this week. No make-up date has been set yet.
