Lady Diamonds win consolation title game at Pryor Tournament; Black Diamonds fall in consolation finals

PRYOR — The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds made it 3-for-3 in ending a tournament with some hardware.

The Lady Diamonds defeated the Wagoner Lady Bulldogs 38-31 Saturday afternoon to win the Pryor Invitational Tournament consolation finals. The Lady Diamonds opened with a heartbreaking 41-39 loss to the host Pryor Lady Tigers in Thursday afternoon’s opening-round game, but they bounced back to defeat the Skiatook Lady Bulldogs 38-30 in Friday morning’s consolation semifinals.

The Black Diamonds just missed out on some hardware as they lost their consolation title game 66-62 to the Oologah Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. The Black Diamonds started the tournament falling 68-35 to the Skiatook Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon before getting their lone tournament win with a 59-55 win over the Pryor Tigers in Friday’s consolation semifinals.

In the girls’ consolation finals, the Lady Diamonds (12-4) jumped out to an 11-4 lead after a quarter, only to see the Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit to 14-13 at halftime. With the game tied at 22-all after three periods, the Lady Diamonds used a 16-9 fourth quarter to seal the deal.

For the game, Hannah Palmer scored 17 points to lead Sallisaw, followed by Kayli Macon with nine points, Katelyn Carlton with six points, Sydney Weedon with five points and Jaycie Cox with a free throw.

In the girls’ consolation semifinals, the Lady Diamonds rallied from a 14-13 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 25-16 over the final three periods to get the come-from-behind win.

For the game, Palmer and Macon each scored 10 points to lead Sallisaw, followed by Channing Wilson with seven points, Cox and Alayna Locust-Trammell with four points each and Weedon with three points.

In the girls’ opening-round game, the Lady Diamonds fell behind the Lady Tigers 15-7 after a quarter, which became a 26-16 halftime deficit and a 32-22 Pryor lead going into the final period.

In defeat, Palmer, Macon and Weedon each scored a game-high eight points to lead Sallisaw, followed by Macon with seven points, Wilson with four points and Carlton and Emma Martin with two points apiece.

In the boys’ consolation title game, the Mustangs broke a 47-all tie with a 19-15 fourth quarter to get the win.

In defeat, Cooper Jackson, who was named to the alltournament team, led the Black Diamonds (7-9) with a game-high 32 points, followed by Treston Oliver with 10 points and Cooper Cox, Brodi Nickell and Cooper Carter with five points apiece.

In the boys’ consolation semifinals, the Black Diamonds rallied for the come-from-behind win as, trailing 43-42 after three quarters, they outscored the Tigers 17-12 in the final period to complete the comeback.

For the game, Nickell scored a game-high 17 points and Jackson added 12 points to lead Sallisaw, followed by Cox and Tae Muskrat-Flynn with eight points each, Oliver and Carter each with six points and Jackson Harris with two points.

In the boys’ opening-round game, the Black Diamonds led 18-17 after a quarter, but the Bulldogs ended up with the halftime advantage at 27-26. The ’Dogs’ bite was ferocious in the second half as they outscored the Black Diamonds 41-9 to win going away.

In defeat, Muskrat-Flynn led Sallisaw with 13 points, followed by Jackson and Cox with seven points each, Nickell, Harris and Carter each with two points and Oliver and Jin Chang with a free throw apiece.
