SALLISAW WRESTLING

Sallisaw sweeps Stilwell on Senior Night

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

It was a successful Senior Night of wrestling for the Sallisaw Lady Diamonds and Black Diamonds in their respective dual against Stilwell on Thursday night at the Sallisaw Middle School Gym.

The Lady Diamonds began the night with a 60-18 win over the Lady Indians, followed by the Black Diamonds posting a 57-9 victory over the Indians.

In the girls’ dual, there were only two matches contested, with each team winning a match by a pinfall.

Sallisaw’s Taylor Archuleta pinned Stilwell’s Mona Freeman in 25 seconds to be the victor in the 105-pound match, while Stilwell’s Josaline Blevins needed just 12 seconds to pin Kimora Miller in their 130-pound match.

The other 12 matches were forfeits, with the Lady Diamonds (4-7 in duals this season) winning nine of those — Hadlee McFarland (100 pounds), Mattie Schuh (110), Paige Frederick (115), Natalie Flute (120), Ximena Rodriguez (125), Hanna Chambers (135), Abbygail Gardenhire (145), Emilie Robbins (155) and senior Lana Petree (190). Petree was one of six seniors along with Black Diamonds wrestlers Cole Mayfield, Aiden Ruiz and Kash Keepes, cheerleader Trinity Cox and trainer Kasey Adame to be honored during the Senior Night ceremony between girls’ and boys’ duals.

The Lady Indians (3-3) got the other three forfeits — one of which was by former Sallisaw Takedown Club member Adriana Chronister at 140 pounds.

The Lady Diamonds and Lady Indians had five matches in their junior high dual, with Sallisaw winning 18-12 with all three wins coming by pinfall — Kayla Perez at 96 pounds in 3:17, Melania Duke at 110 in 48 seconds and Abby Glover at 138 in 1:15.

In the boys’ dual, the Black Diamonds (11-5) won eight of the nine matches contested with the Indians (3-6).

The Black Diamonds got pinfall wins from Talon Flynn (150 pounds, 1:22), Cole Mayfield (165, 1:53), Bodie Adams (175, 1:03), Hunter Smith (190, 2:58) and Keepes (215, 1:06).

The Black Diamonds got two technical fall wins, one by Cason Craft (113 pounds, 21-6) and Morgan Duke (126, 18-3).

Rangler Carter (106 pounds) and Tukker Chase (heavyweight) each won by forfeit.

In the JH dual, the Black Diamonds won 6012, with one match being decided by a pinfall as Mylz Oft pinned Stilwell’s Breydon Miller in 26 seconds in their match at 106 pounds.

All other Sallisaw JH wins came by forfeits from Colton Patterson (92 pounds), Xander Montgomery (112), Tite Cox (119), Levi Benson (126), Bryce Cox (132), Briar James (155), Anthony Adams (170), Keaton Brant (195) and Hagen Compton (heavyweight).

While the dual portion of the Lady Diamonds’ season is completed, the Black Diamonds were slated to have one more home dual on Tuesday night against Lincoln Christian.

Then, the Sallisaw wrestlers, along with the Roland, Vian and Gore wrestlers will participate in the Junior High All-State Tournament, which will take place Thursday through Saturday in Oklahoma City.
