Sallisaw has been named the Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce’s Member of the Month for February.
Catholic Charities first opened its doors in 1975 on East Cherokee Avenue, and with the help of the Cherokee Nation, United Methodist Church and the Oklahoma presbytery, the organization quickly flourished.
In 1990, the outreach center moved to its current location at Adams Street and Denton Avenue. That year, Catholic Charities Sallisaw served food to 497 families. In 2024, the organ i z at i on served 6,784 families — an increase of 1,365% in 35 years.
Pam Wemhaner has been the manager for Catholic Charities Sallisaw for the past five years.
