Sallisaw FCCLA is state bound

By SUBMITTED BY STEPHANIE BENNETT

The Sallisaw Chapter FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) have a lot to be proud of and events to look forward to as winter slowly thaws and springtime emerges. On Jan. 23 Adriann Allen, a junior at Sallisaw High School, who serves as her chapter’s vice president and the Noreast District 5 VP of Community Service, recently was given the green light to interview for and make the ballot as an officer candidate for the Oklahoma FCCLA State Executive Council. Adrianna will attend the OK FCCLA State Convention in April and serve on the courtesy corp as an FCCLA District Officer. There, she will wait patiently as student delegates across the state vote for their next year’s leadership council. If chosen to help lead alongside fellow state officers, she will serve the Oklahoma Affiliation at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Orlando this summer.

The Sallisaw Chapter FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) has a lot of which to be proud and events to look forward to as winter slowly thaws and springtime emerges.

On Jan. 23, Sallisaw junior Adrianna Allen, who serves as her chapter’s vice president and the Northeast District 5 VP of Community Service, recently was given the green light to interview for and make the ballot as an officer candidate for the Oklahoma FCCLA State Executive Council.

Allen will attend the OK FCCLA State Convention in April and serve on the courtesy corp as an FCCLA District Officer. There, she will wait patiently as student delegates across the state vote for their next year’s leadership council. If chosen to help lead alongside fellow state officers, she will serve the Oklahoma Affiliation at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Orlando this summer.

More recently, members of the Sallisaw FCCLA Chapter competed in the Northeast Region STAR Events on Jan. 30 in Owasso. STAR Events are where students take action and recognition for their hard work, completing projects that promote, teach, and foster the ideals of Family and Consumer Sciences. Sallisaw brought five eager participants who competed in their respective categories and levels. Three of which placed first and are looking forward to the State STAR Events held in Stillwater every March.

Sallisaw Chapter Officer of STAR Events Jocelyn Coffman placed first in the category of “Say Yes to FCS, Level 3.” Chapter Officer of Membership Sophia Teague placed first in the category of “Career Investigation, Level 2.” Chapter Officer of Membership Mya Thomas placed first in the category of “Teach or Train, Level 2.” Chapter members Joshua Dean and Hudson Ruark were region qualifiers from the previous District STAR Events in “Creed Speaking & Interpretation.” At region, Hudson Ruark placed third in Level 1 as an eighth grader.

Oklahoma FCCLA recently reached an all-time-high of more than 22,000 members this past January. This year marks 79 years of state affiliation with the OK CareerTech Student Organization, formally known as FHA or FHA/HERO (Future Homemakers of America/Home Economics Related Occupations.)
