Former Vian player, ATU Golden Suns go 1-5 last week

Former Vian Lady Wolverines softball player Kacie Gibbins and her Arkansas Tech University Golden Sun went 1-5 last week, with the lone victory coming in a 9-6 win over Northwest Missouri last Saturday in the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville, Ark.

Former Vian Lady Wolverines softball player Kacie Gibbins and her Arkansas Tech University Golden Sun went 1-5 last week, with the lone victory coming in a 9-6 win over Northwest Missouri last Saturday in the Alvy Early Memorial Classic in Bentonville, Ark.

The Golden Sun lost their home openers, losing 4-2 and 6-4 to Augustana at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville, Ark.

The Golden Sun then lost their first three games of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic — losing 3-2 to McKendree and 5-1 to the University of Texas-Tyler on Friday and 6-3 to Newman on Saturday. In the win over Northwest Missouri, Gibbins was 1-for-2 with a run scored. In the Game 1 loss to Augustana, Gibbins was hitless in three at-bats, while going 1-for-2 with a run batted in for Game 2.

In the loss to McKendree, Gibbins went 1-for-4, while going 2-for-3 with a double against UT-Tyler.

In the loss to Newman, Gibbins went hitless in four at-bats.

The Golden Sun will return to action in the Raising Cane’s Softball Festival, which will be this Friday through Sunday in both Edmond and Shawnee.
