Lady Diamonds finish second at Checotah

CHECOTAH — The Sallisaw Lady Diamonds powerlifting team came in second at last Wednesday’s Checotah Invitational.

The Lady Diamonds also had two individual meet champions as Delaney Compton grabbed the gold medal with a total of 810 pounds lifted to win her weight division, while Loukonnia Davis did likewise to win her division thanks to lifting 800 pounds.

As for other Lady Diamonds, Carmen Cude was runner-up at her weight class (lifting a total of 710 pounds), Kayla Bush was seventh (475) and Pearl Chang was ninth (480).

The Black Diamonds also crowned a meet champion as Ty Bennett was first with 1,105 pounds lifted.

As for other Black Diamonds, Austin File was fourth (1,105 pounds lifted), Cade Tate was fifth (1,150), Donnie Frederickson was seventh (880), Tyler File with eighth (765) and Josh Collins was 10th (905).

In the high school division, Roland had two placers — Mira Reagan was fifth in the 136-pound weight class, while Jaydan Fancher tied for fifth in the heavyweight class in the boys’ division.

Gore’s Drake Cowart was runner-up, and teammate Marcus Scott was third.

In the junior high portion of the meet, Sallisaw’s Tyler Neer (525 pounds lifted) and Alex Escobar (570) were meet champions.

As for other Black Diamonds, Jack Sparks (585 pounds lifted) was second, William Arnold (795) and Rowdi Nickell (680) were fourth, Bently Osmon (495) and Mattox Buckaloo (530) were fifth, Grayson Grinstead (760) was sixth, Connor Hancock (620), Jace Dotson (650) and Blake Lamb (695) were all seventh and Alex Sparks (650) and Israel Moss (690) were eighth.

Gore saw four JH powerlifters win titles as Cole Ralston, Jaydan Gates, Treydan Daugherty and Beau Moore all took home titles in their respective weight divisions.

Four other Gore JH powerlifters, Trenton Cunningham, Weston Cunningham, Alex Hoog and Jace Gates, all came in third.

In the JH girls division for Sallisaw, Kadence Watts (530 pounds lifted) and Aubrey Webb (665) were runners-up, Melania Duke (445) was third, Jimma Carlin (445) was fourth and Gabby McFarland (235) and Sydney Busch (420) were fifth.

Due to illness, none of the Muldrow powerlifters participated in the event, and the Webbers Falls Warriors did not have anyone place.

The Warriors and Gans powerlifter Anthony Vasquez were slated to perform Tuesday in the 2025 8-Man State Powerlifting Meet in Shawnee.

The Lady Diamonds will be idle until going to the Poteau Invitational on Feb. 19.

The Black Diamonds, Bulldogs, Lady Rangers, Rangers and the Pirates will be idle until going to the Iron Hog Classic, which will be Feb. 21 in Panama.
