Local wrestlers win titles, place at JH State Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY — Two local individuals won state titles and several others placed at the 2025 Junior High State Tournament, which took place Thursday through Saturday at Jim Norick State Fair Arena. The girls went on Thursday, while the boys went on the final two days of the three-day event.

Both state champions were crowned during Thursday action as Sallisaw’s Elecktra Locust won the heavyweight title, while Vian’s Joely Hunt took the state at 92 pounds.

All total for Sallisaw, four Lady Diamonds and nine Black Diamonds competed.

For the Lady Diamonds, Melania Duke was third at 110 pounds, while Riley Bridges was eighth at 110. Destiny Clarke went 1-2 at 101 pounds.

For the Black Diamonds, Lucas McAllister (123 pounds) went 4-2, Tukker Chase (200), Keaton Brant (175) and Hagen Compton (heavyweight) each won three matches, Anthony Adame (150) and Mylz Oft (101) each won two matches, Briar James (150) won a match and Toren Gates (84) lost both of his matches.

Vian Wrestling Club member Joely Hunt earned herself a state championship as she won the 92-pound title in the girls’ division of the 2025 Oklahoma State Junior High Tournament, which took place Thursday at Jim Norick State Fair Arena. She went 4-0, getting three of the wins by pinfall.

The Gore Pirates had six wrestlers compete, with 160-pounder Jaydan Gates going 5-2 and getting eliminated in the consolation semifinals.

Wyatt Chitty (80 pounds), Stryker Sandy (130) and Treydan Daugherty (heavyweight) all went 2-2, Beau Moore (105) went 1-2 and Jace Gates (130) lost both of his matches.
