Sallisaw teams get NOAA sweep of Checotah after losing twice to Roland

Last week ended on a high note for the Sallisaw High School basketball teams as they got a road NOAA Conference sweep over the host Checotah squads to spoil the Wildcats’ homecoming on Friday night at Checotah as the Black Diamonds opened the night with a 55-48 victory, followed by a 45-35 victory by the Lady Diamonds.

Last week ended on a high note for the Sallisaw High School basketball teams as they got a road NOAA Conference sweep over the host Checotah squads to spoil the Wildcats’ homecoming on Friday night at Checotah as the Black Diamonds opened the night with a 55-48 victory, followed by a 45-35 victory by the Lady Diamonds.

On Thursday night at Paul Post Field House, the Sallisaw teams lost their rescheduled home games to Roland as the Lady Rangers rallied in the final period to earn a 38-32 comefrom- behind win over the Lady Diamonds, then the Runnin’ Rangers ran right past the Black Diamonds 73-55.

In the boys’ road win over Checotah, the Black Diamonds (8-12 overall, 3-5 in NOAA Conference play) trailed 39-36 after three quarters, but they outscored the Wildcats 19-9 in the final period to get the comefrom- behind win.

For the game, Cooper Cox led all scorers with a game-high 21 points for Sallisaw, followed by Cooper Jackson with 12 points, Brodi Nickell with 10 points, Jackson Harris with nine points and Cooper Carter with three points.

In the girls’ road victory over Checotah, the Lady Diamonds (14-6, 5-3) rallied from a 9-7 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lady ’Cats 38-26 over the final three periods to get the comeback win.

For the game, Hannah Palmer scored 12 points to lead Sallisaw, followed by Kayli Macon with nine points, Emma Martin and Sydney Weedon with six points each and Alayna Locust-Trammell, Katelyn Carlton and Channing Wilson with four points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Roland, the Lady Diamonds led 14-5 after a period, 20-16 at the half and 28-26 after three quarters, but the Roland comeback was made complete by the Lady Rangers (14-4 overall, 7-0 in NOAA Conference play after Thursday night’s win) as they outscored the Lady Diamonds 12-4 in the fourth quarter.

For the game, Ryanne Nelke scored a game-high 13 points and Haven Freeman added 12 points to lead Roland, followed by Lilly Cole with five points, Halle Freeman with four points, Molly Carver, returning to Paul Post Field House for the first time as member of the opposing team, with three points and Julianna Trujillo with a free throw.

In defeat, Locust-Trammell led Sallisaw with nine points, followed by Macon with seven points, Weedon with six points, Palmer with five points, Martin with three points and Wilson with two points.

In the boys’ loss to Roland, the Runnin’ Rangers (17-1, 7-0 after Thursday night’s victory) broke a 36-all tie at halftime by outscoring the Black Diamonds 37-19 in the second half.

For the game, Mason Kemp scored a game-high 28 points and Damonte Owens added 23 points to lead Roland, followed by Buck Triplett with eight points, Kayden Hartt with six points, Raesean Perryman with four points and Cason Perryman and Paul Johnson with two points apiece.

In defeat, Sallisaw put a trio of players into double figures, led by Jackson’s 15 points, followed by Cox’s 13 points and Tae Muskrat-Flynn’s 12 points. Nickell scored nine points, followed by Carter with four points and Harris with two points.
