Muldrow man held without bond after failing to register as sex offender

A Muldrow man has been charged in Sequoyah County District Court with failure to register as a sex offender after it was discovered he hadn’t registered since December 2024.

Jason V. Winfrey, 45, was charged on Jan. 23 and a felony warrant was issued for his arrest the same day, according to court documents. Associate District Judge Kyle Waters ordered that Winfrey be held without bond, and following a Wednesday felony disposition docket, no further court dates have been scheduled for Winfrey as of press time.

Sequoyah County Sheriff deputy Michelle Rigsby reported while reviewing sex offender registration, she noted that Winfrey had not checked on for the month of January, passing the 90-day registration mark.

Rigsby tried contacting Winfrey multiple times by phone and after checking the residence he provided in Muldrow, it was found to be vacant. The owner of the property reportedly told Rigsby that Winfrey had left the residence on Dec. 22, 2024, and never returned.

Winfrey was last known to be staying at a hotel in Pryor, according to the probable cause affidavit filed in the case, and is a convicted sex offender in Mayes County.

If convicted of the crime, District Attorney Jack Thorp said it is punishable by imprisonment of not more than five years and/or a fine not to exceed $5,000, or both.
