The Roland High School basketball teams celebrated Senior Night with a sweep over the Sequoyah-Tahlequah squads Monday night at the Ranger Dome.
The Runnin’ Rangers won in dramatic style as a last-second 3-point basket by freshman Damonte Owens lifted them to a 60-57 victory to cap the night after the Lady Rangers avenged the season-opening loss to the Lady Indians with a 48-27 victory.
In the boys’ game, the Runnin’ Rangers (21-1) rallied to tie the game at 57-all with just less than a minute to go on a pair of Buck Triplett free throws to set up Owens’ gamewinning 3-pointer with two seconds left to play. The win got Roland boys coach Eddie Lewis his 700th coaching victory.
For the game, Owens scored a game-high 26 points to lead Roland, followed by Kade Shook with 14 points, Mason Kemp with 11 points and Triplett with nine points.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Rangers (18-4) jumped out to a 13-3 lead after a quarter en route to a 24-16 halftime advantage and a 37-20 lead going into the final period.
For the game, Ryanne Nelke scored a game-high 18 points and Halle Freeman added 14 points to lead Roland, followed by Haven Freeman with seven points, Molly Carver with six points and Lilly Cole with three points.
