Snowstorm alters Class 2A, A Regional Tournaments schedule

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

Mother Nature has played a hand in when the Class 2A and A high school basketball playoffs will resume.

Due to this week’s snowstorm, the Class 2A and A Regional Tournaments will not get started until today, with Day 2 action slated for Saturday and Day 3 games scheduled for Monday. Games times will remain the same.

In the Class 2A Regional Tournament at Hulbert, it will be a battle of Lady Tigers and Tigers when Central’s teams will meet Oktaha’s squads in the championship semifinals at 6 and 7:30 tonight, with the winners playing not only for the regional championships at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Monday in Dale against the Dale-Pawnee winners but automatically will earn a spot in next week’s area tournament in McAlester.

The Central-Oktaha losers will play in the Class 2A Regional Tournament consolation semifinals against the Mounds-Meeker winners at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Dale, with the winners playing in the consolation championships at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Monday in Dale as well as advancing to the area tournament on the consolation side.

In the Class 2A Regional Tournament at Talihina, the Vian teams will be in the consolation quarterfinals against the Warner teams at 1 (girls) and 2:30 p.m. (boys) this afternoon.

The Vian-Warner winners will play in the Class 2A Regional Tournament consolation semifinals against the Panama-Ketchum losers at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Colcord, with the winners playing in the consolation championships at 1 and 2:30 p.m. Monday in Colcord as well as advancing to the area tournament in Okmulgee on the consolation side. Any more losses by either Vian team will eliminate them from the postseason.

In the Class A Regional Tournament at Okmulgee, the Gore Pirates will meet fellow Riverside Conference rival Okay at 7:30 tonight, with the winner meeting the Dewar-Waukomis winner at 7:30 p.m. Monday for not only the regional championship but also will earn a spot in the area tournament next week in Stroud.

The Gore-Okay loser will play in the consolation semifinals against the Depew-Hominy winner at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Okmulgee, with the winner playing for the consolation title at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Okmulgee with the winner going to the area tournament in Stroud on the consolation side.

In the Class A Regional Tournament at Cameron, the Webbers Falls Lady Warriors will meet Afton at 1 this afternoon in the consolation quarterfinals, with the winner meeting the Ripley-Porter Consolidated loser at 1 p.m. Saturday at Porter Consolidated High School, with the winner playing in the consolation championship at 1 p.m. Monday in Porter as well as advancing to the area tournament in Cleveland, Okla., on the consolation side. Any more losses will eliminate the Lady Warriors from the playoffs.
