OKMULGEE — The 2024-25 basketball season came to an end for the Gore Pirates with back-to-back losses in the Class A Regional Tournament.
The Pirates lost their regional championship semifinal game 66-27 to Riverside Conference foe Okay on Friday night, then lost 57-49 to Hominy in Saturday afternoon’s regional consolation semifinals.
In the loss to Okay, the Mustangs led 15 11 after a quarter, but they put away the game with a 22-8 second period and a 20-5 third quarter to take a 57-24 lead into the final period. In defeat, Cain Cooper led the Pirates (18 8) with 12 points, followed by Duane Hunt with seven points, Keeton Rowe with six points and Logan Markou with two points. In the season-ending loss to Hominy, the Bucks trailed 11-9 after a quarter, but they outscored the Pirates 15-8 in the second period to take a 2419 halftime lead. An 18-13 third quarter for Hominy stretched its advantage to 42-32 entering the final period.
In defeat, Gore put a trio of players into double figures, led by Tate Brooksher with 16 points, followed by Hunt with 14 points and Cooper with 13 points. Rowe added six points.
