Lady Vikings open season with home split with NOC-Tonkawa

The 2025 softball season got underway for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings on Wednesday as they split their home openers with the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks.

The 2025 softball season got underway for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings on Wednesday as they split their home openers with the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks.

The Lady Vikings took the nightcap 13-9 after losing the opener 13-4.

In the nightcap, the Lady Vikings (1-1) rallied from a 1-0 third-inning deficit with a five-run third inning to take the lead for good at 5-1 after three innings.

After the Lady Mavericks cut their deficit to 5-2 in the fourth inning, CASC erupted for six runs in the fourth inning to take an 11-2 lead after four innings.

NOC-Tonkawa scored five runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 11-7 but got no closer.

For the game, Kyleigh Ritchie was 3-for-4 with two doubles, her first home run of the season and five runs batted in, Kinlee Basquez was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, Tynli McCarty was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Kenzie Lowrey was 2-for-2, Tessa York was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, Kirsten Berry was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Braedy Wardrope was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Lady Vikings.

Kami Autrey (1-0) got the win, going the first five innings with a strikeout. Sophia Abbott went the final two innings.

In the opener, the Lady Vikings cut their deficit to 4-3 after two innings, but a five-run fourth inning and a four-run sixth inning put the Lady Mavericks ahead 13-3 to put away the game.

In defeat, Ryleigh Tiger was 2-for-3 with her first homer of the season, two runs scored and an RBI for CASC.

Basquez (0-1) took the loss, as she went the first 3.2 innings with a strikeout. Abbott went the final 2.1 innings with a strikeout.

The Lady Vikings will return to action at 9 this morning against Moberly (Mo.) Area Community College, then meet Kirkwood Community College at 8:30 a.m. Saturday before heading to meet Connors State College in a 1 p.m. Monday doubleheader in Warner. The Lady Vikings will return home for a 1 p.m. Tuesday twinbill vs. NOC-Enid.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Carl Albert State College baseball team did not meet the Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts junior varsity on Tuesday as originally rescheduled. The Vikings (93) will travel to meet Labette Community College for a noon DH this afternoon in Parsons, Kan., before the two teams will meet for a noon doubleheader Saturday at Mark Pollard Park at Ival Goodman Field in Poteau.
