Local powerlifters do well in regular-season finale at Panama

PANAMA — Several local powerlifters did well in the Iron Hog Classic, the last meet of the regular season, on Thursday and Friday at Razorback Event Center.

PANAMA — Several local powerlifters did well in the Iron Hog Classic, the last meet of the regular season, on Thursday and Friday at Razorback Event Center.

The high school powerlifters went on Friday, with all six Sallisaw Black Diamonds placing.

Ty Bennett (1,085 pounds lifted) and T.J. Abercrombie (1,305) were champions at their respective weight class, Donnie Frederickson was second (910), Cade Tate (1,175) was third, Garrett Deel (1,210) was fourth and Noah Briley (845) was fifth.

Three Muldrow Bulldogs placed on Friday as David Keenan (123-pound division) and Braxton Thrailkill (242) were runners-up, while Alejandro Santacruz was third in the 198-pound class.

For the Gore Pirates, Devon Mannon and Marcus Scott were runners-up in their respective weight classes, Drake Cowart was third, Antonio Parker was fourth and Gabe Hefley and Maden Smith were fifth.

In Thursday’s junior high portion of the meet, the Black Diamonds were runners-up in the seventh-grade division, while having 12 lifters place.

Tyler Neer (515 pounds lifted), Rowdi Nickell (715), Jack Sparks (605), Dylan Lee (580) and Hagan Compton (870) won their respective weight-division titles, Xander Montgomery (475) was runner-up, Alex Escobar (725) was third, Mattox Buckaroo (600), Connor Hancock (635), Bentley Osmon (505) and Robert Bennett (785) were fourth and Eli Wilson (525) was fifth.

For the Pirates, Cole Brooksher, Jaydan Gates, Luke Wisdom and Treydan Daugherty were champions at their respective weight classes. Beau Moore, Weston Cunningham and Trenton Cunningham all were second, while Jace Gates and Seth Current were third.

Gans Grizzly powerlifter Anthony Vasquez and the Webbers Falls Warriors did not participate in the meet.

It’s postseason powerlifting time for the locals as regional meets will take place later this week.

The Black Diamonds and Vazquez will be at their respective regional meet on Friday in Hartshorne, the Bulldogs and the Pirates will be at their respective regionals on Thursday in Hartshorne and the Warriors and the Roland Rangers will be in their respective regional meet Friday at Hilldale High School in Muskogee.
