Vikings go 3-1 against Labette

The Carl Albert State College baseball team went 3-1 in its two doubleheaders against Labette Community College.

On Friday in Parsons, Kan., the Vikings split their road twinbill as they won the opener 13-3 but lost the nightcap 5-3.

On Saturday at Mark Pollard Park at Ival Goodman Field, the Vikings swept the visitors by scores of 10-6 and 16-1.

In Friday’s win, the Vikings (12-4) broke a 1-all tie with a three-run second inning, a four-run third inning and a three-run fourth inning for a 11-1 lead.

For the game, A.J. Streater hit his first home run of the season, a grand-slam shot in the third inning, while Connor Cox hit his first homer of the spring, a solo shot, and scored twice for the Vikings.

Duke Walker (2-0) got the win, going the first three innings with three strikeouts and allowing no hits. Seth Hubbard finished things out, going the final two innings with five Ks.

In Friday’s loss, Labette rallied from a 3-0 third-inning deficit with a five-run sixth inning to get the comefrom- behind victory.

In defeat, Royce Florenzano was 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored for CASC.

In Saturday’s Game 1 victory, the Vikings got out in front 4-0 after two innings and had a 7-2 lead after four innings. A three-run sixth inning made it 10-2.

For the game, Florenzano was 3-for-5 with a double, his first homer of the season and four runs batted in, Dominic Ornelas was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Kip Christian was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored, Streater was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Vikings.

Gage Elliott (4-0) got the win, going six innings with seven strikeouts. After Kaden Murray got the first out of the seventh inning by strikeout, T.J. King got the last two outs of the game.

In Saturday’s Game 2 win, the Vikings scored three runs in the first inning and once in the second inning for a 4-0 lead. After Labette got its run in the third inning to cut its deficit to 4-1, the Vikings scored six runs in the fourth inning, once in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth inning to get the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Christian was 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI, Blake Vanderburg was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored, Rayian Torres doubled and scored once and Tucker Wooten doubled with four RBIs and a run scored for CASC.

After the Vikings played a home doubleheader against the Oklahoma Christian University of Science and Arts junior varsity on Thursday, they will play a home doubleheader against Southeast Arkansas beginning at noon next Thursday.
