Former Vian softball player’s ATU team goes 2-1 against UAM

Former Vian Lady Wolverines softball player Kacie Gibbins and the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns took two of three games last weekend from the University of Arkansas-Monticello at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville, Ark.
The Golden Suns took both of last Friday’s games — 9-1 in six innings and 5-3 — before losing Saturday’s game 7-4.
In Friday’s opener, Gibbins was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in.
In Friday’s nightcap, Gibbins was 2-for-4 with her first home run of the season, while going hitless in two at-bats but scoring once in Saturday’s contest.
Gibbins and the Golden Suns (12-14 overall, 4-7 in Great American Conference play) were swept in Tuesday afternoon’s GAC doubleheader by host Harding University, losing 4-1 and 4-0. In the opener, Gibbins was hitless in two at-bats with an RBI, while going 1-for-3 in the nightcap. Through 26 games, Gibbins is hitting .303 with six doubles, a solo homer, 17 RBIs, 12 runs scored and four stolen bases.
Gibbins and the Golden Suns will travel to Durant for a weekend road series against host Southeastern Oklahoma University — with a single 3 p.m. game this afternoon and a noon Saturday twinbill — before playing a 3 p.m. road doubleheader against Northeastern State next Tuesday in Tahlequah.
