Local boxers ready to compete in OK Golden Gloves Tournament

By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

Four Diamond Ring Fitness and Training boxers, Ismael Castillo, Enrique Castillo, Marco Colorado and Yoan Alvarado, will be competing in this weekend’s Oklahoma State Golden Gloves Tournament in Tulsa.

The boxers are looking forward to this weekend’s event.

“I’m super excited,” said Ismael Castillo, who will be competing in the 165-pound division. “This is what I’ve been training for. It’s going to be amazing.”

“I’m super excited,” said Enrique Castillo, who will be in the 132-pound division. “It will be my first open fight. I’m ready to put on a great show, have a great opponent and just get the win.”

“I’m very ready for this weekend,” said Colorado, who is among the boxers in the field at 112 pounds. “I’m very excited to show what I’ve been working on, to just put on a good show, entertain everybody and come out with the win.”

If the locals do well enough this weekend, they will qualify for the regional tournament. Subsequently, if they do well enough at the regionals, they would qualify for the 2025 National Golden Gloves Tournament. That thought is acting as an extra motivator this weekend for the local boxers.

“I don’t think there’s any words to explain it (desire to keep hopes alive),” Ismael Castillo said. “I’m just excited for it. I’m ready. I’m super ready for this.”

“I’m very excited because I get to carry on my last name for the Castillos,” Enrique Castillo said. “That’s the whole goal of me boxing, just to carry them to the top level.”

“I’m excited to keep the goal alive to get to the national level,” Colorado said. “That’s the highest level. If you succeed there, you can succeed anywhere.”
