By DAVID SEELEY SPORTS EDITOR

The Sallisaw Black Diamonds baseball team ran its record to 7-0 to begin the season as they defeated the Coweta Tigers 12-2 on Tuesday in Broken Bow and Valliant 5-1 on Wednesday in Valliant in the 2025 Southeast Shootout.

In the win over Coweta, the Black Diamonds, who trailed 1-0 after an inning, put the game into run-rule status with a seven-run second inning and a five-run third inning.

For the contest, Dagan Grizzle was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs batted in and a run scored, while Rylan Eagle doubled with an RBI and a run scored for Sallisaw.

Luke Pack (1-0) got his first win of the season, pitching a complete four-inning five-hitter with three strikeouts.

In the victory over Valliant, the Black Diamonds broke a 1-all tie with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings for a 5-1 lead.

For the game, Eagle was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Pack doubled and scored three runs for Sallisaw.

Kase Adams (2-0) got the win, going the first two innings with three strikeouts. Levi Scavo went the next three innings with three Ks, then Brodie Cameron went the final two innings with two strikeouts.

The Black Diamonds were slated to wrap up their Southeast Shootout play with a Thursday afternoon game against Hartshorne in Battiest before returning to District 4A-8 play with back-to-back games against Idabel — at 3 p.m. Monday in Idabel and 3 p.m. Tuesday for what is scheduled to be the home opener if the new turf has been completely laid down.

SPIRO 10, ROLAND 3

Tuesday afternoon in Roland, the Bulldogs (8-1 overall, 5-0 in District 3A-8 play) spoiled the home opener for the Rangers (0-2, 0-2).

The ’Dogs scored twice in the first inning, once in the third inning, twice in the fourth inning, three runs in the fifth inning and once in the sixth inning for a 9-0 lead.

The Rangers scored twice in their half of the sixth inning on a pair of RBI grounders by Alex Brant and Channing McKinney to cut their deficit to 9-2 but got no closer.

In defeat, Avery Moya doubled and scored once, Raesean Perryman doubled and Rickey Watts doubled for Roland.

Brant (0-1) suffered the loss, despite striking out nine batters in 4.1 innings. Moya went the final 2.2 innings with five Ks.

TALIHINA 10, CENTRAL 9

Tuesday afternoon at Central High School, the Tigers (3-6) tried to rally late but came up short.

The Golden Tigers (5-3) scored three runs in the first inning, once in the third inning and three more runs in the fourth inning for a 7-0 lead.

The Tigers scored six runs in the fifth inning to cut their deficit to 7-6, but a three-run seventh inning for Talihina upped its advantage to 10-6.

The Tigers scored three runs in the seventh inning to cut the Talihina lead 10-9 and had the tying run at second base, but Talihina pitcher Kaden Cossey retired the next batter to preserve the victory for the Golden Tigers.
