A Sallisaw man has been charged with first-degree burglary and malicious injury to property after he allegedly broke into another resident’s home last month, resulting in more than $10,000 in property loss.
Tommy W. Simpson, 61, was charged on March 3 in Sequoyah County District Court and received a $25,000 bond. Associate District Judge Kyle Waters ordered Simpson to have no contact with the alleged victim as a condition of his bond, according to court documents. Simpson pled not guilty to his charges and is now scheduled for an April 2 felony disposition docket.
Sequoyah County Sheriff’s deputy Brian Stone reported he was dispatched to a residence on 1020 Road in reference to a burglary where he spoke with the property owner.
According to the property owner, when she and her daughter returned to the residence, they found the back door had been broken into. The two then reported seeing two men inside and when the property owner’s daughter yelled at them to drop the items they were carrying, the men ran from the residence and left in a truck. The property owner’s daughter took pictures of the two men as they were fleeing.
One of the two men was later identified as Simpson, with the truck being identified as a blue 1989 Ford Ranger. A felony arrest warrant was then issued for Simpson on his charges.
District Attorney Jack Thorp said if found guilty of first-degree burglary, the charge is punishable by imprisonment for seven to 20 years.
