Lady Vikings suffer multiple losses

It was a rough end to last week’s action for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team as it suffered a pair of doubleheader losses to Central Baptist College and Arkansas State University-Three Rivers.

It was a rough end to last week’s action for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team as it suffered a pair of doubleheader losses to Central Baptist College and Arkansas State University-Three Rivers.

On March 18 in Conway, Ark., the Lady Vikings lost 11-2 and 12-2, then fell twice to ASUThree Rivers by scores of 7-0 and 12-11 on Thursday in Malvern, Ark.

In the opening loss to Central Baptist College, the Lady Mustangs scored six runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning for an 11-0 lead.

The Lady Vikings (4-15) scored twice in the second inning to cut their deficit to 11-2 after three innings but got no closer as the game reached run-rule status by the fifth inning.

In defeat, Braedy Wardrope was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Tessa York was 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Lady Vikings.

Kami Autrey (1-5) took the loss, going only 1.1 innings with a strikeout. Sophia Abbott went the final 2.2 innings with four Ks.

In the nightcap loss to Central Baptist, the Lady Mustangs broke a scoreless tie with a run in the third inning, then put the game into run-rule status with and 11-run fourth inning. CASC scored twice in the fifth inning, but it was not enough to keep the game going.

In defeat, York was 2-for-3 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored for CASC.

Abbott (2-5) took the loss, going the first three innings with two strikeouts. Kinlee Basquez got the next two outs, both by strikeouts, then Autrey got the final out.

In the opening loss to ASUThree Rivers, the Lady Vikings were three-hit by Lady Eagles pitcher Kiersten Dickerson, who struck out four batters in seven innings.

The Lady Eagles scored once in the first inning, three runs in the second inning, once in the fifth inning and twice in the sixth inning.

In defeat, Tynli McCarty singled twice and Wardrope singled once for CASC’s three hits for the Lady Vikings.

Abbott suffered the loss, going the first 4.2 innings with six strikeouts. Basquez went the final 1.1 innings with a strikeout.

In the nightcap loss to Three Rivers, a 12-run fifth inning rallied the Lady Eagles from a 9-0 deficit to a 12-9 lead after five innings. The Lady Vikings scored twice in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 12-11 but got no closer.

In defeat, Kirsten Berry was 2-for-5 with her sixth and seventh home runs of the season and four RBIs, York was 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, McCarty was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Delaynie Ross was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Kyleigh Ritchie was 2-for-3 and Wardrope tripled with three RBIs and two runs scored for CASC.

Abbott suffered the loss, going four innings with a strikeout. Autrey went the final two innings.

The Lady Vikings, who were slated to face the Southern Arkansas University Tech Lady Rockets in a Tuesday doubleheader in Camden, Ark., will travel to meet the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks in a 1 p.m. Thursday twinbill in Tonkawa.
