English novelist and poet George Eliot has observed that animals are such agreeable friends. They ask no questions, they pass no criticism.
Agreeing with that, Sallisaw Main Street on Saturday will host Pawsitive Pets — A festival for pet lovers. The fun-filled celebration of the community’s furry, feathered and four-legged friends will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in downtown Sallisaw.
The free festival promises to be packed with activities for pet owners, animal lovers and the whole family.
Event highlights will include:
• Free pet vaccinations from 9 to 11 a.m. (or while supplies last) at the GRDA stage on the library lawn.
• Free dog training sessions from 9:30 a.m. to noon led by Black Diamond Canine Assisted Learning and Scott Mayfield of Rising Star Farms. Sessions include leash fundamentals at 9:30 a.m., “Stop & Recall” at 10 a.m., playtime at 10:30 a.m., an obstacle course contest at 11 a.m., and awards and certifications at noon.
A pet pageant will be held 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the Pocket Park, featuring categories like Best Behaved, Best Dressed, Most Talented and Best of Show. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Other attractions include a small animal petting exhibit by Herbaria Highlands, perfect for animal lovers of all ages; local pet-friendly vendors offering unique products, treats and pet services; and the Pink Pig food truck will serve Indian tacos and funnel cakes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Whether you’re bringing your pet or just love animals, Pawsitive Pets is the perfect way to spend a spring Saturday,” says animal advocate and veterinarian Dr. Paula Haraway. “So grab your furry friend and get ready for a paws-itively great time.”
