TULSA — No. 9 Oklahoma took a midweek road baseball match-up at Oral Roberts University, winning 11-2 on Tuesday night at Chapman Park.

ORU (15-9) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a lead-off single, a trio of wild pitches and a double play that allowed a run to score. OU Senior righty Reid Hensley entered in relief in the first and retired the side and proceeded to hurl five scoreless, hitless innings with three strikeouts.

OU (21-3) put up 11 runs on 12 hits and drew nine walks.

After the Golden Eagles’ lead-off single in the first, OU pitching didn’t allow another hit until the seventh and allowed just one runner to reach in the third inning. OU’s bullpen of Hensley, Gavyn Jones (two innings pitched) and Jackson Kircher (two innings pitched) surrendered no runs and just three hits and four walks.

OU scored single runs in the second and third to tie the contest. Dawson Willis drew a bases-loaded HBP in the second and a double play in the third allowed Jaxon Willits to race home to tie the game.

The Sooners pulled away with four-run innings in the fourth and seventh.

At the plate, OU was paced by Kyle Branch and Jaxon Willis, with respective 3-for-5 and 3-for-4 performances. Seven Sooners recorded a hit in the contest with six bringing in at least one run, led by Willis and Trey Gambill’s two each.

On the mound, Hensley (2-0) took his second win of the season, hurling five shutout innings with three strikeouts and just a walk and no hits allowed. Relievers Jones and Kircher each went two innings with Kircher striking out a season-high four to Jones’ one. OU starter Jacob Gholston surrendered two runs on one hit and two walks in the first inning.

In defeat,   Will Edmunson and Wailele Kane-Yates were the only two Golden Eagles to reach multiple times. Conner Johnson (0-2) took the loss.

Winners of 10 of their last 12 games, the Sooners return to Southeastern Conference play this weekend with a series at No. 12 Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala. OU will look for its third SEC series victory in as many weekends, starting SEC play 4-2.

The Golden Eagles return to Summit League play with a three-game road series against St. Thomas beginning this afternoon in St. Paul, Minn.
