Former Vian player’s ATU team gets series sweep

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Former Vian Lady Wolverines softball player Kacie Gibbins and the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns swept a three-game home series from Ouachita Baptist University at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex.
The Golden Suns took Thursday’s opener 3-0 and walked it off in the nightcap 2-1, then won Friday’s series finale 7-5.
In Thursday’s opener, Gibbins was 2-for-3 with a stolen base, while going 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored.
In Friday’s win, Gibbins was 2-for-3 with a run scored. In 37 games, Gibbins is batting .342 with 13 doubles, a triple, a home run, 21 runs batted in, seven stolen bases and 22 runs scored. Gibbins and the Golden Suns (22-15 overall, 12-8 in Great American Conference play), after playing a road doubleheader Tuesday against Rogers State College in Claremore, will then travel to meet Henderson State in a GAC three-game series in Arkadelphia, Ark., with a 4 p.m. Friday single game and a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader. Then next Tuesday, they will entertain Harding University in a 5 p.m. SAC game at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex.
