Sallisaw routs Poteau after going 2-2 in Tiger/Zebra Classic; Vian pitcher hurls no-hitter

POTEAU — The Sallisaw Black Diamonds kept their District 4A-8 record intact with a 13-0 rout of the host Poteau Pirates on Monday evening at Town Creek Park.

POTEAU — The Sallisaw Black Diamonds kept their District 4A-8 record intact with a 13-0 rout of the host Poteau Pirates on Monday evening at Town Creek Park.

The Black Diamonds (13-2 overall, 4-0 in district play) got a two-hitter from Creed Nelson (4-0), who struck out four batters in five innings.

The Black Diamonds scored four runs in the first inning and five runs in the second inning for a 9-0 lead. A four-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Luke Pack was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Connor Green was 2-for-4, Dagan Grizzle was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, Brodie Cameron was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, Coleman Wasson doubled with two RBIs and Easton Wolfe doubled with two RBIs for Sallisaw.

SALLISAW 10, LINCOLN CHRISTIAN 7

CLAREMORE 8, SALLISAW 5

TULSA WASHINGTON 16, SALLISAW 15, 8 INN.

Thursday through Saturday at the Tiger/Zebra Classic in Pryor and Claremore, the Black Diamonds went 2-2 and suffered the first losses of the season.

In the win over Lincoln Christian, the Black Diamonds rallied from a 4-3 second-inning deficit with a two-run second inning and a run in the third inning to take the lead for good at 6-4 after three innings.

For the game, Rylan Eagle was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs batted in and two runs scored, Luke Pack was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored, Connor Green was 2-for-4, Creed Nelson was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI and Broque Oft doubled with an RBI for Sallisaw.

Coleman Wasson (1-0) got his first win of the season, going the first two innings with two strikeouts. Keaton Brant went the next three innings with six Ks, then Dagan Grizzle went the final two innings with three strikeouts.

In the win over Joplin, the combination of Creed Nelson and Eagle threw a fivehitter. Eagle (2-0) got the win as he went the final three innings with a strikeout. Nelson went the first two innings with two strikeouts.

The Black Diamonds broke a scoreless tie with a nine-run fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Pack and Brodie Cameron each singled with an RBI and a run scored, Eagle singled with two RBIs, Grizzle singled with an RBI and Johnny Velasquez singled and scored once for Sallisaw.

In the loss to Claremore, the Zebras rallied from a 3-2 fifth inning deficit with a six-run fifth inning to take an 8-3 lead after five innings. The Black Diamonds mounted a seventh-inning rally, scoring twice, but the rally came up short.

In defeat, Grizzle went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Sallisaw.

Pack (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season, going the first 4.1 innings with a strikeout. Levi Scavo went the final 1.2 innings with a strikeout.

In the loss to Tulsa Washington, the Black Diamonds tied the game at 15-all with a three-run sixth inning, only to see the Hornets break the tie in the eighth inning for the win.

In defeat, Pack was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, Green was 2-for-4, Nelson was 2-for-5 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored, Grizzle was 2-for-4 with his third home run of the season which was a solo shot, Oft was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Carson Sharp doubled with an RBI for Sallisaw.

Cameron (0-1) was the hard-luck loser, pitching the final two innings with a strikeout. Scavo started and went the first two innings with a strikeout. Brodi Nickell went the next 2.1 innings with a strikeout. Sharp entered and got the next five outs, two of which came by strikeout.

VIAN 4, HOWE 3

Monday afternoon in Vian, the Wolverines (13-4) broke a 2-all, firstinning tie with single runs in the second and fifth innings for a 4-2 lead. The Lions (7-5) scored once in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 4-3 but got no closer.

For the game, Michael Polecat was 3-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored for Vian.

Polecat (3-2) got the win, going the first six innings with four strikeouts. Manny Terrill went the final inning with a strikeout to get his first save of the season.

GORE 14, MCCURTAIN 0, 3 INN.

The Pirates (9-5) got a three-hitter from Gage Dame (1-0), who got his first win of the season, going all three innings, throwing a three-hitter and striking out seven batters.

The Pirates scored five runs in the first inning and eight in the second inning to take a 13-0 lead, then added a run in the third inning to put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, James Brasuell was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs batted in and two runs scored, McKennon McElhaney was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI and Duane Hunt was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Gore.

VIAN 12, FORT GIBSON 1, 5 INN.

Friday afternoon in Fort Gibson, it was all Wolverines, who led 1-0 after an inning, 3-0 after two innings and 5-0 after four innings. A seven-run fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Michael Polecat was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, Riley Ellis was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, Manny Terrill was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Jeremiah Marshall was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored and Kaden Fulbright doubled with an RBI for Vian.

Chris Cheater (2-0) got the win, pitching a five-inning, no-hitter with three strikeouts.

VIAN 9, EUFAULA 1, 5 INN.

Thursday in Eufaula, Manny Terrill (30) threw a five-hitter with two strikeouts.

The Wolverines scored three runs in the first inning for a 3-0 lead. After the Ironheads cut their deficit to 3-1 after an inning, the Wolverines put away the game with a six-run fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Drake Collins was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, Michael Polecat was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Terrill was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Riley Ellis doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Vian.

BROKEN BOW 17, MULDROW 0, 5 INN.

BROKEN BOW 8, MULDROW 0 Monday afternoon in Muldrow, the Savages (13-3 overall, 5-1 in District 4A-8 play) swept a road district doubleheader from the host Bulldogs (4-12, 0-7).

In the opener, Broken Bow pitcher Jett Johnson threw a no-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Hayden McKinster (1-3) suffered the loss, despite getting two strikeouts in four innings. Jack Rhodes went the final inning with a strikeout.

In the nightcap, the Broken Bow duo of Austin Burkhart and Gage Smith combined on a three-hitter. Burkhart got the win as he fanned 15 batters in six innings. Smith had three Ks in his one inning of work.

In defeat, McKinster, Brody Israel and Jace Prewett each singled for Muldrow’s three hits.

Jonah Claborn (1-4) took the loss, despite striking out nine batters in six innings.

HEAVENER 14, ROLAND 3, 5 INN.

Monday afternoon in Roland, the Wolves (2-11 overall, 1-6 in District 3A-8 play) scored three runs in the first inning, once in the second inning and three more runs in the third inning for a 7-0 lead. After the Rangers (0-8, 0-3) scored three runs in the third inning to cut their deficit to 7-3, the Wolves put the game into run-rule status with a three-run fourth inning and a four-run fifth inning.

Heavener pitcher Kason Free threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.

In defeat, Channing McKinney and Alex Brant each singled with a run batted in and a run scored for Roland.

Colton Peters (0-2) suffered the loss, despite fanning eight batters in four innings. Derrick Allen got the final three outs.

PANAMA 11, CENTRAL 1, 6 INN.

Monday at Central High School, the visiting Razorbacks (11-2) jumped out early on the Tigers (5-10), scoring single runs in each of the first three innings, adding three more runs in the fourth and scoring twice in the fifth inning for an 8-0 lead. After the Tigers scored their lone run in the fifth inning, a three-run sixth inning for the Hogs put the game into run-rule status.

Panama pitcher Brayden Wiles threw a six-inning two-hitter with seven strikeouts.

In defeat, Ryker Miller doubled and Xhaiden Mosby singled for Central’s two hits.

Hardy Buzzard (0-5) suffered the loss, going the first 3.2 innings with four strikeouts. Waylen Campbell went the next 1.1 innings, then Miller went the final inning.

WELEETKA 9, WEBBERS FALLS 8

Monday afternoon in Weleetka, after the Warriors (5-8-1) scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 8-all, the Outlaws (11-7) walked it off for the win in their half of the frame.

In defeat, Brutus Robinson was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Clayton Roberts was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Webbers Falls.

Ryan Cowan (1-2) suffered the loss in relief, going the final two-plus innings. Robinson started and went the first four innings with three strikeouts.
