Webbers Falls 4th in own baseball tournament; Gans falls to Warner, Keota

The Webbers Falls Warriors finished fourth in their own Webbers Falls Baseball Tournament, which took place Thursday through Saturday at Eual Carter Sports Complex.

The Warriors lost 3-1 to Porum in poolplay action on Thursday night, then got two wins in Friday’s pool-play action — beating Arkoma 9-3 and Quinton 15-2.

In Saturday’s third-place game, the Warriors lost 12-5 to Keota in a game that was called after six innings due to the time limit expiring.

The other local team in the field, the Gans Grizzlies, lost 16-3 to Warner on Thursday and 13-1 to Keota on Friday. The Grizzlies would have met Arkoma for seventh place, but they decided to not return on Saturday for the matchup.

SATURDAY THIRD-PLACE GAME

KEOTA 12, WEBBERS FALLS 5, 6 INN.

The Lions rallied from a 4-3 firstinning deficit by scoring six runs in the second inning and twice in the fourth inning for a 11-4 lead.

In defeat, Gunner Shelby, Ryan Cowan and Zane Nolan each singled for the Warriors (5-7-1).

Elliott Kunkel (1-3) suffered the loss in relief, going two-thirds of an inning with a strikeout. Luke Pierce started and only got two outs in the first inning. Gunner Shelby finished the game, going the final 4.2 innings with seven strikeouts.

FRIDAY

WEBBERS FALLS 9, ARKOMA 3

The Warriors broke a 1-all tie with a three-run third inning and a five-run fourth inning for a 9-1 lead.

For the game, Brutus Robinson was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a run batted in, while Clayton Roberts was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Webbers Falls.

Ryan Cowan (1-1) got his first win of the season, going the first 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. Elliott Kunkel got the final two outs.

WEBBERS FALLS 15, QUINTON 2

After the Savages scored once in the opening inning, the Warriors responded with a six-run first inning for a 6-1 lead, which became a 12-2 advantage after two frames to put the contest into runrule status.

For the game, Ryan Cowan was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored for Webbers Falls.

Trysten Wilbourn (2-0) threw a threeinning, one-hitter with five strikeouts.

KEOTA 13, GANS 1

After the Grizzlies (0-5) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lions roared back with two runs in the first inning, six runs in the second inning and five runs in the third inning for a 13-1 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

The combination of Keota pitchers of Kaden Decker and Maddox Howard combined to no-hit the Grizzlies.

Jarrett Frazier-Barter took the loss, going the first 2.2 innings with four strikeouts. Of the 13 runs Keota scored, only eight were earned due to two Gans errors.

THURSDAY

PORUM 3, WEBBERS FALLS 1

The Panthers scored twice in the first inning and once in the third inning for a 3-0 lead. The Warriors cut their deficit to 3-1 in the fourth inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Luke Pierce tripled and scored Webbers Falls’ lone run, while Brutus Robinson and Clayton Roberts each singled.

Robinson (0-1) suffered the loss, despite 10 strikeouts in five innings.

WARNER 16, GANS 3

The Eagles flew out to a 5-0 lead in the opening inning. After the Grizzlies scored three runs in the third inning to cut the deficit to 5-3, the Eagles put the game into run-rule status with an 11run third inning.

In defeat, Harley Strahm and Phoenix Xiong each singled for Gans.

Jarrett Frazier-Barter took the loss, lasting only an inning with two strikeouts. Jaxon Ragsdale got the first out in the second inning, then, Phoenix Xiong got the next three outs — all by strikeout. Brenden Strickland got the final out of the game.
