Lady Vikings’ losing streak reaches 7

The Carl Albert State College softball team’s losing streak has reached seven games.

On March 27, the Lady Vikings lost both games of a road doubleheader to Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa by scores of 12-1 and 11-3.

On Monday in Wilburton, the Lady Vikings lost another road doubleheader, this time to archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College and former Vian Lady Wolverine Maisie Wells by scores of 9-0 and 8-0.

On Tuesday in Newport, Ark., the Lady Vikings lost their third straight doubleheader, falling to the Arkansas State University-Newport Lady Aviators by scores of 6-0 and 12-3.

In the opening loss to NOC-Tonkawa, after the Lady Vikings (5-22) scored took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Mavericks put away the game with a two-run first inning, a three-run second inning and a six-run third inning for a 11-1 lead. A run in the fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Tessa York was 2-for-3 for the Lady Vikings.

Sophia Abbott (3-8) suffered the loss, going the first 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. Kinlee Basquez went the final 1.2 innings with two strikeouts.

In Game 2 against NOC-Tonkawa, the Lady Mavericks jumped out to a 6-0 lead after an inning and put the game into run-rule status with a run in the fifth inning.

In defeat, Jada Wallis was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Tatum Tinsley was 2-for-2 with a run batted in for CASC.

In the opening loss to Eastern, the Lady Vikings were two-hit by Eastern pitcher Chloe Hill, who had 10 Ks.

In defeat, Wallis and Tynli McCarty each singled for the only hits for the Lady Vikings.

Abbott took the loss, despite getting three strikeouts in four innings.

In the Game 2 loss to Eastern, Eastern’s duo of Brooke Handle and Grace Hulsey combined to two-hit the Lady Vikings.

In defeat, York and Braedy Wardrope each singled for CASC’s only hits.

Kami Autrey (1-6) took the loss, going the first three innings with a strikeout. Basquez got the final three outs.

In the Game 1 loss to ASU-Newport, the Lady Aviators scored once in the first and fourth innings, then put away the game with a four-run fifth inning.

In defeat, York and Basquez were each 2-for-3 for the Lady Vikings.

Abbott suffered the loss, going the first four innings. Autrey went the final two innings with a strikeout.

In the nightcap loss to ASU-Newport, the Lady Aviators put away the game early, scoring seven runs in the first inning, three runs in the second inning and twice in the third inning for a 12-0 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, York was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while Basquez was 2-for-3 with an RBI for CASC.

Basquez (1-5) took the loss, only lasting an inning. Izzy Pack went the final three innings with two strikeouts.

The Lady Vikings will continue their road trip with a 3 p.m. doubleheader Saturday against Arkansas-Rich Mountain in Mena, Ark., before returning home for a noon twinbill Tuesday against Western Oklahoma State College.
