A tragic fatality occurred early Tuesday morning on the Muskogee Turnpike, as a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle. The collision took place around 6:40 a.m., about two-tenths of a mile north of mile marker 53, just one mile west of Webbers Falls, in Muskogee County.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reports, the pedestrian, identified as 47-year-old Timothy Glass of Warner, was walking in the middle of the outside lane when he was struck by a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500. Glass was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. The exact reason as to why Glass was in the roadway remains under investigation.

The vehicle was driven by Terry Swimmer, 70, of Gore. Swimmer was uninjured in the crash, and his 68-year-old passenger, Ava Swimmer, also of Gore, sustained minor injuries. She was transported by Muskogee County EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

The incident is still under investigation by Trooper Knight of the OHP’s Troop XB detachment. Preliminary findings indicate that the collision was caused by the pedestrian being in the roadway at the time, with both the driver and passenger using seatbelts at the time of the crash.
