Vikings sweep TCS Post Grad, suffer losses to Eastern, Murray State
The Carl Albert State College baseball team got a weekend home sweep of TCS Post Grad last Saturday at Mark Pollard Park at Ival Goodman Field in Poteau as the Vikings won by scores of 5-2 and 5-4.

However, things have not gone the Vikings’ way this week as they lost 8-6 to archrival Eastern Oklahoma State College on Monday in Poteau before losing a doubleheader to Murray State College by scores of 15-3 and 14-1 in games that took place Wednesday afternoon on the “Turf of Dreams” at Sallisaw High School, since the original date of games on Thursday likely would have been rained out.
In the opening win over TCS Post Grad, the Vikings (24-10) rallied from a 2-0 fourth-inning deficit with a single run in the fourth inning, a three-run fifth inning and a single run in the sixth inning.
For the game, Keypher DeLeon was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in for the Vikings.
Gage Elliott (7-1) got the win in relief, going 2.2 innings with two strikeouts. Jaxon Spangler got his second save of the season, going the final two innings with three strikeouts. Duke Walker got the start, going the first 2.1 innings with a strikeout.
In the second game against TCS Post Grad, the Vikings walked it off with a three-run seventh inning.
For the game, Royce Florenzano was 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored, Connor Cox was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Kip Christian doubled and scored once for CASC.
Carter Norris (1-0) got his first win in relief, pitching the final two innings with three strikeouts. Blake Lidnsey got the start, going the first three innings with two strikeouts. Chase Stevens went the next two innings with a strikeout.
In the loss to Eastern, the Mountaineers scored three runs in the ninth inning to get the come-from-behind win.
In defeat, Christian was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, DeLeon was 2-for-3, Blake Vanderburg was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored and Florenzano doubled with an RBI and a run scored for the Vikings.
Madden Dillard (0-1) took the loss in relief. Jett Frazier got the start and went the first six innings with three strikeouts. Landon Donaho went the next 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. After Dillard got an out, Seth Hubbard got the final three outs of the game, one of which came by strikeout.
In Wednesday’s opener against Murray State, the Aggies scored twice in the first inning, six runs in the third inning, twice in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth inning for a 15-0 lead after five innings to put the game into run-rule status.
In defeat, Brooks Herrera hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot, in CASC’s three-run fifth inning, with the other two runs scoring on DeLeon’s tworun single.
Elliott took the loss, going the first 2.2 innings with two strikeouts. Norris went the final 2.1 innings with two strikeouts.
In Wednesday’s nightcap against the Aggies, the Vikings cut their deficit to 4-1 after an inning, but that was as close as they got.
The Aggies scored five runs in the third inning, three runs in the fourth inning and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game into run-rule status.
In defeat, DeLeon was 2-for-3 with a double, his fifth homer of the season, which was a solo shot in the first inning for CASC’s lone run.
Walker (3-2) took the loss as he lasted only one-third of the first inning. Wyatt Sammons went the next two innings with two strikeouts. Spangler got the next two outs on strikeouts before Tanner Mullins came in and went two innings with two strikeouts. Ethan Waters went the final two innings with two strikeouts.
The Vikings and the Aggies will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at the MSC Baseball Field in Tishomingo.
