Former Vian player’s ATU team suffers series sweep by Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Former Vian Lady Wolverine Kacie Gibbins and the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns had a rough couple of days against the host Henderson State University Reddies in a weekend series that did not get started until Sunday due to rain.
On Sunday afternoon, the Golden Suns suffered a pair of losses, falling 8-0 and 4-3 in nine innings, then the Reddies edged the Golden Suns 3-2 on Monday.
In the opener against Henderson State, Gibbins went hitless in three at-bats, while going 2-for-5 with a run batted in and a stolen base. In Monday’s game, Gibbins was 1-for-3.
Through 42 games this season, Gibbins is batting .338 with 13 doubles, a triple a home run, 22 RBIs, 22 runs scored and eight stolen bases.
Gibbins and the Golden Suns (22-19 overall, 1210 in GAC play) were slated to entertain Harding University on Tuesday for a single GAC game before closing out this week with a home three-game GAC series against Southern Nazarene University at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex in Russellville, Ark. There will be a 5 p.m. single game on Friday against SNU followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday before the Golden Suns welcome Delta State to town for a 2 p.m. twinbill next Monday.
