RGS Gold Wagon breaks record in winning Mr Jet Moore Stakes at Remington Park with local horse third

By RICHARD LINIHAN REMINGTON PARK

OKLAHOMA CITY — RGs Gold Wagon blazed to a new stakes record Sunday, winning the $75,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes with ease under jockey James Flores.

OKLAHOMA CITY — RGs Gold Wagon blazed to a new stakes record Sunday, winning the $75,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes with ease under jockey James Flores.

RGs Gold Wagon cruised home a winner in the 350-yard black-type race for Oklahoma-breds, hitting the line in 17.208 seconds for a 103 speed-index. That broke the old record of 17.273 seconds set by last year’s Champion Horse of the Meeting at Remington Park, Jess Good Wine.

It was the first win in this series for all the connections of the 5-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelded son of Prized Wagon, out of the Gol mare JA Gols Debutante. Steven Jordan trains the winner for owner Mauricio Garza of Mission, Texas. Their speedster is a multiple graded stakes winner in his career, winning the Grade 3 Evangeline Downs Futurity in 2022 in Louisiana as a 2-year-old, the Grade 3 Jack Brooks Stakes at Remington Park in 2023 at age 3, and the Grade 3 King William Stakes at Retama Park near San Antonio in 2024 at age 4.

RGs Gold Wagon might have done his thing and been a double-stakes winner this meet when he went off as the 8-5 favorite in the $75,000 Mighty Deck Three Stakes, but trainer Steven Jordan said he made a mistake with him for that race.

“I should have stood him in the gate before that race,” Jordan said. “Then he false broke into the gate (when he ran sixth and was upset by Ima Fancy Eye Opener, trained by Sallisaw’s Rhonda Valdivia and owned by Shania and Terry Dale Cox of Sallisaw).”

Those two faced off again Sunday in this stakes, but it was a different story. Flores said his mount was more than ready this time.

“He had a good break and a strong finish,” Flores said. “When they do that, it’s hard not to win.”

RGs Gold Wagon earned $42,600 for this trip to the winner’s circle and improved to 31 starts, nine wins, eight seconds and four thirds for earnings of $451,031. He was bred in Oklahoma by Roy Garza.

Jordan will consider the Dee Raper Sooner State Stakes, for Oklahoma-breds, (April 19) for a possible next appearance for RGs Gold Wagon.

Despite his reputable record as a multiple stakes winner, RGs Gold Wagon went off at generous odds of 6-1 and paid $15.40 to win, $8 to place and $5.80 to show.

LS Jacks Back (12-1) finished second, 1.25 lengths behind, and Ima Fancy Eye Opener (3-1) had to settle for third on this night, another head back.

The rest of the order of finish after the top three was Cowboys R Myheros (44-1) fourth, Unrelentless (9-5 wagering favorite) fifth, Deutsch (40-1) sixth, Relentless Coronado (9-2) seventh, Jess a Rednec Cowboy (18-1) eighth and A Tres of Eagle (5-1) last.

This was such a tough race from top to bottom that the first two finishers, both graded stakes winners, paid a whopping $168.80 in the $2 exacta wager.

The race, a restricted Grade 2 for Oklahoma-breds, age 3 and older, is named for the 1972 American Quarter Horse Association World Champion who was also the victor of the very first Champion of Champions.

Remington Park racing continues beginning Thursday and ending next Sunday. First post time is 6 p.m. nightly with the exception of Sunday when the first race goes off at 4 p.m.
