Vikings suffer road losses to Murray State

TISHOMINGO — The Carl Albert State College baseball team suffered a pair of road losses to the host Murray State College Aggies by scores of 7-4 and 8-7 on Sunday afternoon at the MSC Baseball Field.

TISHOMINGO — The Carl Albert State College baseball team suffered a pair of road losses to the host Murray State College Aggies by scores of 7-4 and 8-7 on Sunday afternoon at the MSC Baseball Field.

In the opener, the Vikings (24-12) scored once in the third inning and twice in the sixth inning for a 3-0 lead, only to see the Aggies score seven runs in their half of the sixth innings to take the lead for good at 7-3 after six innings. In defeat, Royce Florenzano was 3-for-4 with a run batted in, Kip Christian was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Dominic Ornales was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning for his second homer of the season, Connor Cox was 2-for-4, Rayian Torres was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Brooks Herrera hit a solo homer, his third homer of the season, in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 7-4 for the Vikings.

Jaxon Spangler (1-2) suffered the loss, going the first five innings with eight strikeouts. Seth Hubbard went the final three innings with a strikeout.

In the nightcap, the Aggies walked it off in the home half of the seventh inning after the Vikings tied the game at 7-all with two runs in the top of the frame.

In defeat, Ornales was 3-for-4 with his third homer of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth inning, two RBIs and two runs scored, Jett Frazier was 2-for-4 with his second homer of the season, a two-run shot in the seventh inning to tie the game at 7-all, with three RBIs, Torres doubled with an RBI and Florenzano hit his second homer of the spring for CASC.

Wyatt Sammons (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season in relief as he allowed the final three runs to score for the Aggies, including the game-winning run in the seventh inning. Chase Stephens got the start and went the first four innings with four strikeouts.

The Vikings will return to action with a pair of doubleheaders against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa. The first twinbill will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mark Pollard Park at Ival Goodman Field in Poteau, and the second doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday in Tonkawa.
