ALTUS — The Carl Albert State College softball team had a rough day Tuesday afternoon as they lost both games to the host Western Oklahoma State College by scores of 12-9 and 12-2, with the latter game being a five-inning contest.

In the opener, the Lady Pioneers rallied from a 6-2 fourth-inning deficit with a 10-run fourth inning to take the lead for good at 12-6. The Lady Vikings (5-24) scored three runs in the fifth inning on Jada Wallis’ three-run home run to cut their deficit to 12-9 but got no closer.

In defeat, Kirsten Berry was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, a run batted in and a run scored, Tynli McCarty was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Braedy Wardrope was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored, Wallis was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer for her first roundtripper this season and Kinlee Basquez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Lady Vikings, who had last Saturday’s road games against Arkansas-Rich Mountain rained out.

Sophia Abbott (3-9) suffered the loss, going 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Kami Autrey went the final 2.1 innings.

In the nightcap, after the Lady Vikings cut their deficit to 2-1 in the second inning, a seven-run second inning, a two-run third inning and a single run in the fourth inning made it 12-1 after four innings to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Wardrope was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Tessa York was 2-for-3 with a double, Autrey doubled and scored once and Tatum Tinsley doubled with an RBI for CASC.

Izzy Pack (0-1) suffered her first loss of the season, going only an inning. Basquez went the final three innings.

After welcoming Northern Arkansas College to Poteau for a Thursday afternoon doubleheader, the Lady Vikings will travel to meet National Park College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday in Hot Springs, Ark., before making up last Saturday’s road twinbill at UA-Rich Mountain at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mena, Ark.
