Sallisaw gets district sweep over Broken Bow; WF pitchers combine for no-hitter

BROKEN BOW — It didn’t come easy, but the Sallisaw Black Diamonds baseball team got its District 4A-8 sweep of the Broken Bow Savages with an 11-10 road victory Tuesday night.

BROKEN BOW — It didn’t come easy, but the Sallisaw Black Diamonds baseball team got its District 4A-8 sweep of the Broken Bow Savages with an 11-10 road victory Tuesday night.

The Black Diamonds (16-2 overall, 7-0 in district play) rallied from a 7-5 deficit after five innings with a six-run sixth inning to take the lead for good at 11-7. The Savages (13-5, 5-3) tried to rally in its half the frame, scoring three runs to cut the deficit to 11-10 but got no closer.

For the game, Easton Wolfe was 2-for-5 with a double and a run batted in, Johnny Velasquez was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Broque Oft was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and a run scored and Dagan Grizzle doubled with four RBIs and a run scored for Sallisaw.

Brodie Cameron (1-1) got his first win of the season in relief, pitching the final four innings with four strikeouts. Wolfe got the start and went the first three innings with three Ks.

VIAN 13, REJOICE CHRISTIAN 5, 5 INN.

Tuesday afternoon in Vian, the Wolverines (16-4), who had their lead trimmed to 2-1 after two innings, scored five runs in the third inning for a 7-1 lead. After the Eagles (713) trimmed their deficit to 7-5 with a four-run fourth inning, the Wolverines put the game into run-rule status with a tworun fourth inning and a fourrun fifth inning.

For the contest, Jeremiah Marshall doubled with two runs batted in, Kaden Fulbright doubled with four RBIs and Riley Ellis doubled and scored four runs for Vian.

Chris Cheater (3-0) got the win, going the first 3.2 innings. Fulbright got his first save of the season, going the final 1.1 innings with a strikeout.

GORE 13, MCCURTAIN 2, 4 INN.

Tuesday night in McCurtain, the Pirates (10-6), who led 4-0 after three innings, put away the game with a nine-run fourth inning for a 13-0 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, James Brasuell was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, four runs batted in and two runs scored, Gage Dame was 2-for-3 with a double, his first home run of the season and two RBIs, Kason Short was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Colten Frye doubled and scored twice for Gore.

Dame (2-0) got the win, going the first two innings with five strikeouts. Keiden Denton went the next 1.2 innings with a strikeout, then Frye came in and got the last out. The trio combined for a two-hitter.

WEBBERS FALLS 10, BRAGGS 4

WEBBERS FALLS 10, CAVE SPRINGS 0, 3 INN.

Tuesday afternoon in Braggs, the Warriors (8-9-1) got a pair of road wins on the day.

In the win over the host Wildcats, the Warriors had a 4-0 lead in the second inning, which became a 5-2 advantage in the third inning. After the ’Cats (4-6) scored twice in the third inning to cut the deficit to 5-4, the Warriors put away the game with a five-run fourth inning.

For the contest, Luke Pierce, Trysten Wilbourn and Caden McNamara each singled.

Wilbourn (3-0) got the win in relief as he pitched the most innings as he went the final three innings with five strikeouts. Ryan Cowan got the start and went the first two innings with two strikeouts.

In the victory over Cave Springs, the pitching duo of Pierce and Elliott Kunkel combined to no-hit the Hornets (0-2).

Pierce (2-1) got the win, going the first two innings with four strikeouts. Kunkel pitched the final inning with three Ks.

The Warriors scored six runs in the first inning, then added a pair of two-run innings in the second and third innings to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Clayton Roberts was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, while Wilbourn doubled with two RBIs and two runs scored for Webbers Falls.

IDABEL 9, MULDROW 3

Tuesday afternoon in Idabel, the Bulldogs (4-14 overall, 0-9 in District 4A-8 play) suffered a pair of district road losses.

In the opener, the Warriors (5-13, 2-7) scored six runs in the opening inning for a 6-0 lead and were never headed. The closest the ’Dogs got was 6-2 in the second inning.

In defeat, Gabe Miller, Jackson Phillips, Jack Rhodes, Tripp Rozell and Wyatt Prewett each singled for Muldrow’s five hits.

Jonah Claborn (1-5) took the loss, despite getting two strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Hayden McKinster got the final out. Of Idabel’s nine runs, only one of them was earned due to 10 Muldrow errors.

In the nightcap, the Warriors scored once in the first inning, eight runs in the second inning and single runs in the third and fourth innings for an 11-0 lead. After the Bulldogs cut the deficit to 11-3 after five innings, a four-run sixth inning by Idabel put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Claborn was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Phillips tripled with an RBI for Muldrow.

Jace Prewett (1-3) suffered the loss, going three innings with two strikeouts. McKinster pitched the fourth inning and got two strikeouts, then Rhodes went the final two innings with two strikeouts.

TULSA HOLLAND HALL 12, ROLAND 0, 5 INN.

Tuesday afternoon in Tulsa, the Dutch (12-6 overall, 7-0 in District 3A-8 play) routed the Rangers (1-10, 1-5) twice on the day.

In the opener, the Dutch scored once in the third inning and 11 runs in the fifth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

Holland Hall pitcher Carson Ward no-hit the Rangers with seven strikeouts.

Colton Peters (0-3) took the loss as he recorded two strikeouts in five innings.

In the nightcap, the Dutch scored twice in the first inning and 15 runs in the second inning for a 17-0 lead. They added a run in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Alex Brant and Erik Garcia each singled for the only hits for the Rangers. Derrick Allen (0-1) suffered the loss.
