Muldrow gets first district win of season, thanks to pitcher striking out 16 Poteau Pirates

POTEAU — The Muldrow Bulldogs won their first District 4A-8 game of the season as they defeated the Poteau Pirates 2-0 in eight innings Monday night at Town Creek Park.

POTEAU — The Muldrow Bulldogs won their first District 4A-8 game of the season as they defeated the Poteau Pirates 2-0 in eight innings Monday night at Town Creek Park.

Muldrow pitcher Jonah Claborn (2-5) got the completegame, eight-inning win as he struck out 16 batters and threw a two-hitter.

The ’Dogs (5-16 overall, 1-9 in district play) broke a scoreless tie on Brody Israel’s RBI double and a wild pitch in the eighth inning.

For the game, Hayden McKinster was 2-for-4, while Israel had an RBI double for Muldrow.

CENTRAL 9, GORE 2

Monday afternoon in Gore, the Tigers (8-13) broke a 2-all tie with a five-run fifth inning and a two-run seventh inning. For the game, Aidan Sainer was 2-for-5 with a run batted in and a run scored, while Waylen Campbell doubled and scored twice for Central.

Ryker Miller (3-2) got the complete-game victory as he struck out eight batters and threw a six-hitter.

In defeat, Kason Short was 2-for-2, while Kyler McGee doubled with an RBI for the Pirates (13-7).

Tate Brooksher (3-3) suffered the loss, going the first five innings with nine Ks. McKennon McElhaney went the final two innings.

VIAN 8, PRAIRIE GROVE 3

Monday afternoon in Prairie Grove, Ark., the Wolverines (20-5) jumped out to an early advantage as a three-run first inning and a two-run third inning made it 5-0. After Prairie Grove cut its deficit to 5-2 after four innings, the Wolverines scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for a 7-2 advantage.

For the game, Riley Ellis was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, Drake Collins was 2-for-3 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored, Jeremiah Marshall doubled with an RBI and Kaden Fulbright tripled with three RBIs for Vian.

Chris Cheater (4-0) got the complete-game win, getting eight strikeouts and throwing a five-hitter.

MORRIS 16, ROLAND 3, 5 INN.

Monday afternoon in Roland, the Eagles (4-16 overall, 2-9 in District 3A-8 play) jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the second inning. The Rangers (2-13, 1-6) scored once in their half of the second inning to cut their deficit to 4-1, but got no closer as the Eagles had a pair of six-run innings in the third and fourth innings for a 16-1 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Austin Foster was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Roland.

Hunter Burris (1-2) took the loss, going the first 3.2 innings with two strikeouts. Colton Peters went the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts.

OKAY 8, WEBBERS FALLS 6

Monday afternoon in Okay, the Mustangs (5-7) rallied from a 5-2 second-inning deficit with a single run in the third inning and a five-run fourth inning for an 8-5 lead.

In defeat, Brutus Robinson was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Hayden Stephens was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and Ryan Cowan doubled for the Warriors (9-12-1).

Trysten Wilbourn (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season, getting three strikeouts. He was the hard-luck loser as all of Okay’s runs were unearned due to five Webbers Falls errors.
