Former Vian player’s ATU squad splits pair with Delta State after series win over SNU

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Former Vian Lady Wolverine Kacie Gibbins and the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns split a home doubleheader with Delta State on Monday afternoon at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex after winning a home Great American Conference series from Southern Nazarene over the weekend.

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Former Vian Lady Wolverine Kacie Gibbins and the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns split a home doubleheader with Delta State on Monday afternoon at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex after winning a home Great American Conference series from Southern Nazarene over the weekend.

The Golden Suns took Monday’s nightcap from Delta State 5-2 after losing the opener 3-1.

Last Saturday afternoon, the Golden Suns enjoyed two walk-off wins over SNU, winning 4-3 and 3-2, after losing last Friday night’s series opener 9-6.

In the opener against Delta State, Gibbins was 2-for-4 with her 14th double and a run scored, while going hitless in four at-bats in the nightcap. In Saturday’s opener against SNU, Gibbins was 1-for-2 with a run scored, while going 1-for-2 with with her second triple of the season and a run scored. In Friday’s loss to SNU, Gibbins was hitless in three atbats but scored once. Through 48 games this season, Gibbins is batting .324 with 14 doubles, two triples, a home run, 26 runs scored, 23 runs batted in and eight stolen bases.

Gibbins and the Golden Suns (25-21 overall, 15-12 in GAC play) was slated to hit the road for a three-game GAC series against Gibbins’ former Vian teammate, Greenlee Wells, and the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison in Shawnee, with a Thursday single game and a noon twinbill this afternoon.
