Lady Vikings sweep Northern Arkansas, suffer sweeps against NPC, UARM

The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team went 2-4 in the last three doubleheaders in which they played.

The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team went 2-4 in the last three doubleheaders in which they played.

On April 10, the Lady Vikings took two home games from Northern Arkansas College by scores of 15-2 in five innings and 9-6.

Last Saturday in Hot Springs, Ark., the Lady Vikings suffered a pair of losses to National Park College by scores of 8-0 in five innings and 9-1 in five innings.

On Tuesday in Mena, Ark., the Lady Vikings suffered a 7-0 loss and an 11-9 defeat at the hands of Arkansas-Rich Mountain.

In the opener against Northern, after falling behind 1-0 in the opening inning, the Lady Vikings (7-28) scored four runs in the first inning, twice in the third inning and three runs in the third inning for a 9-1 lead. A six-run fourth inning put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Tessa York was 3-for-4 with her second home run of the season, a three-run shot in the third inning, five runs batted in and three runs scored, Jada Wallis was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, Braedy Wardrope was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, Kinlee Basquez was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Kirsten Berry hit her eighth homer with three RBIs and two runs scored for the Lady Vikings.

Sophia Abbott (4-11) got the win, going all five innings with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap against Northark, the Lady Vikings rallied from a 5-4 deficit with a two-run fifth inning and a threerun sixth inning to take a 9-5 lead.

For the game, Brianna Taylor was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, York was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Wallis was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Berry was 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, Ryleigh Tiger was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored and Basquez doubled with an RBI for CASC.

Kami Autrey (2-7) got the win, going the first five innings with three strikeouts. Abbott went the final two innings with three strikeouts to get her first save of the season.

In the opener against NPC, the Lady Vikings were two-hit by NPC pitcher Bailee Cowell, who struck out seven batters in five innings.

In defeat, York singled and Basquez doubled for the only hits for the Lady Vikings.

Abbott took the loss, going the first two innings with a strikeout. Autrey went the final two innings with three Ks.

In the nightcap against NPC, after the Lady Vikings took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Nighthawks took the lead for good with a pair of two-run innings in the first two innings for a 4-1 lead. A four-run fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Berry and Taylor each singled for CASC’s only hits.

Autrey took the loss, going the first four innings with a strikeout. Izzy Pack got the last out.

In the opener against UARM, UARM pitcher Hayden White four-hit the Lady Vikings.

In defeat, Tatum Tinsley, Wallis, Basquez and Tiger each singled for CASC.

Abbott took the loss, going the first 3.2 innings with four strikeouts. Autrey went the final 2.1 innings with two strikeouts.

In the nightcap against UARM, after the Lady Vikings cut their deficit to 7-6 in the third inning, the Lady Bucks scored three runs in the third inning and once in the fourth inning for an 11-6 lead. CASC scored three runs in the seventh inning, but the rally fell short.

In defeat, York was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, Berry was 2-for-4 with a triple, her ninth homer, six RBIs and a two run scored, Taylor was 2-for-4, Kyleigh Ritchie was 2-for-4, Delaynie Ross was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Wallis doubled with an RBI and a run scored for the Lady Vikings.

Basquez (1-6) took the loss, going the first two innings. Autrey went the next three innings with three strikeouts, then Abbott went the final inning with two Ks.

After entertaining Murray State College for a Thursday doubleheader, the Lady Vikings will welcome UARM to Poteau for a twinbill at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
